I think what he meant this video was crazy. God Bless America for not having bollards. Or, he could just be an idiot.

Hey Uncle Sam, it's not American!! Notice buses have doors on left and all cars have steering wheels on right, plus all reg plates are british. America doesn't have a monopoly on stupidity.

I work in insurance (for my sins) and this happens all the time. I get the hear some great excuses from drivers who have tailgated buses, wrecked their cars and caused damage to the bollard.

Big Baz - there is no control room. They are controlled by sensors on the vehicles that are permitted to use the streets. Only a total dickhead would believe that a person is controlling them and trying to trash people's vehicles.

First I was amazed that these things existed. Then that any town should need them. But what amazed me most was that someone would be so desperate to drive down that street that they'd risk wrecking their vehicle???

That is one of the funniest things I've seen. Imagine explaining that to your boss after using the work van.

Info: The rising bollards at St Mary's Gate have had their ups and downs since
their installation in June 2006.
This area was revealed as a city centre accident hotspot early in 2006.
So the bollards were fitted and cars were banished from St Mary's Gate, with
only the clever little metro buses fitted with electronic sensors being
allowed to pass through. The bollards detect the sensors in front of the
buses, and disappear into the ground to let the buses pass.
