Latest comment: "Going to be honest here, stumbled on the images, but I'm more amused by the discussion. Come on people, basic grammar. "

Actually he is right, "Spaniel's" is a contracion of is, does etc. The ' after s is the correct usage although no one really uses it anymore.

As Professor of Spaniels at Malamute University I say "aw, aint they cute with the likkle black nosey woses?"

Guest: Pete Star (331 days ago)

Actually Guest, you're wrong. There is only one Spaniel in the pictures so "Spaniel's" is correct

Guest (331 days ago)

If you really want to be pedantic searchguru, Spaniels' little friends grow up, is the correct punctuation

Guest (329 days ago)

Yep Pete Star and searchguru are both wrong.

Pete Star, you are correct in your correction.

Guest (328 days ago)

As a Professor of English both cases are technically correct, however searchguru your argument is flawed. You put forward the possessive use of the apostrophe. This would be correct if the Malamutes were property of the Spaniel, which is not the case. In this case "Spaniels'" is the proper usage.

If said Malamutes are friends of the Spaniel. Then they are the Spaniel's friends. The Spaniel on the other hand (paw) is the Malamutes' friend. So both Pete Star and I are correct. If you would like further proof of the use of apostrophes then please look at this: http://www.mantex.co.uk/samples/apo.htm Oh and Guest it's (it is) contraction with a t not contracion. If you are going to correct a pedantic C**T like me you'd (a contraction) better get your facts straight.

One is a Spaniel, if you want to be really pedantic.
