Africa isnt a country its a continent. you could draw the exact same conclusion by comparing the countries mentioned with Asia or the Americas.

Ireland is not a part of Great Britain, but it is a part of the "British Isles" - a generic term created by the Romans over 2000 years ago! British Isles is a geographical term that refers to the whole of Ireland and Great Britain as well as the surrounding islands.

I would like to add, other than just the Irish, many Celtic ppl, also find the term British Isles offensive. For that matter perhaps many English ppl do to? Who knows! The celtic nations (Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Cornwall, Man) on the other hand, do have a common cultural heritage that does not depend upon any kind of false union.

To all who give a sh*t."The term British Isles is controversial in relation to Ireland, where many people may find the term offensive or objectionable;the Irish government also discourages its usage."So if your from England you would say the british isles,if your from anywhere else(Including Ireland) you would say the british isles and Ireland.Ireland is not part of british isles anymore http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/10/03/ireland/ So do your research mouat2 (is irony your middle name?) and to anonymous also, go fcuk yourselves you pompous wank*rs. That is all.

John McClain - Eurasia is techincally a landmass and not a geographical/political continent. Europe and Asia are seperate continents and have been seen as such for a very long time. Mind you there are people who see Eurasia as a single continent... as there are people who call Australia a seperate continent to the Oceanic islands.... and people who lump the Central American countries in with South America rather than North America. Saying all that, this thing about Africa is still shit!

Since when was Ireland pat of the british Isles. If England gave back all the land they stole you could fit them on a postage stamp. Read your history

Turko, since when were the British Isles considered to be among the worlds largest countries? It's the best, but not the biggest.
