no the trick was that he drew the sword and cut in one fluid motion i its called "ijutsu" or some such, it the hallmark of a good swordsman.

What is the point in the 3,2,1 countdown when the ball isn't released on 1????

Guest (93 days ago)

They are ok chopping up balls and cutting the heads off helpless prisoners of war, but they are no good on a level playing field.

Guest (149 days ago)

How is this any harder than hitting a baseball with a baseball bat? Surely at 90mph with a sword that sharp the effort required is minimal.

glortmanglortman (149 days ago)

Well, first of all, you don't have to take your bat out of the sheath. Second, the angle for the sword strike is not in line with the line of travel for the ball, which a bat is. Third the blade of the iaito is a little less than 3/8", which is 2 1/4" inches smaller than a regulation bat, so about 17% the size. I don't know...seems harder to me.

glortmanglortman (148 days ago)

oh yeah...one more thing...the edge of the sword is almost infinitesimally small, and the plane of the iaito must be perpindicular to the ball, whereas with the bat, any two points on the surface of the sphere and cylinder would suffice to make a "hit".

glortmanglortman (148 days ago)

Actually, before searchguru or ajhawkins correct me, it is not an iaito, it is a shinken. An iaito is a practice blade, and this one is obviously live.

It's nice to see that you're getting your act together, well done! I wouldn't know my arse from my elbow when it comes to Japanese swords but it's nice to know you care. XXX

Guest (146 days ago)

and you are just a cock

Guest: samurai (148 days ago)

Actually it's not that hard to do. Because the ball is launched mechanically, it's always following the same path. It's just a matter of positioning right and drawing out the sword without having to aim at anything!

Guest: Mooky (146 days ago)

Don't count on it Dave.
