Reviews of David Hasselhoff's Greatest Hits album on Amazon Read from bottom up
Spiritual turbo boost, May 6, 2003 Reviewer: A music fan from san antonio, TX When I listen to this album, the soft, sweet, melodious whispers of David Hasselhoff caress my being, and fill my spirit with indescribable ecstacy and energy, much akin to a KITT turbo boost for the soul. Waves of pleasure overwhelm me, dare say I - as if though I had just rescued a really hot chick from being eaten by an octopus in an underwater cave.
It's going to make you stronger!, May 5, 2003 Reviewer: TC8trax from Detroit, Rock City THE MAN has definitely driven the point home with this one. Musical genius shines through on this classic hits compilation from the guru of talking cars and beach bimbos (and himbos). My personal experiences during my first listening session involving this gem is testimony to his "musical" vision. From the pants-wetting thrills of "Looking for Freedom" to the epic bowel-emptying climax of "I Believe", David Hossenfeffer lends his artistry to the most excruciatingly original delivery of rock and roll since Brittany Spears first chose music over a life of prostitution.
The music gods are literally going to war over this set. You can imagine the powers that be ready to commit Hari-Kari over this mind altering collection. I find myself crippled with abdominal distress, as the CD seems to carry on endlessly. The delirious agony peaks on the seventh song: "Save The World". I literally had to phone 911 after the first dozen bars of this hidden treasure in Dufus Hagelberg's catalog. The EMS technicians threatened a mercy killing if I continued to refuse to mute the stereo system. Once the eighth song "Those Lovin' Eyes" began, they ran from my dwelling seeking treatment from the technician who wisely stayed behind in their vehicle. I was glad to see them leave, as I realized at this moment, that surviving this torrent of aural torture would surely make me a stronger and better person in the long run. Needless to say, by the time the CD concluded, my audio system had been so severely damaged, I can only relish the experience in my memory. Do yourself a favor and get yourself a copy of this extraordinary album!
Kit would have been proud., May 4, 2003 Reviewer: Knight Industries 2000... KIT for short from Alone Being a talking car has always been enjoyable for me, between telling traffic wardens to "bog off" and making farting noises whenever Michael was in the company of a pretty girl, I've always managed to keep myself amused. With regards to big Dave's latest album let me run a quote by you that a talking stereo friend of mine said after playing what could easily be described as the "Mona Lisa" of music albums, which is coincidentally a sentiment that I expressed to Mr Haagen Dasz many times before... I loved it when he was inside me. I feel compelled to add that "Hot Shot City" was particularly good. Bravo Davey Boy, keep writing those hits.
Ahh. The sweet aroma of musk., May 1, 2003 Reviewer: Harvard Basilcoff from Skywanker Ranch Darver Hankenscoff is truly an amazing onstage presence. Last month at the TV Family Values Tour, I watched him rock out alongside Jaleel "Urkel" White and Corey Haim. When Alan Thicke and Lorenzo Lamas joined them for a hearty rendition of "Born To Be Wild," I was in heaven. And I think the crowd at the Eagle Ballroom in Milwaukee agreed with me. But this CD is not a live album. It is a comprehensive collection of Hathecraft's best studio work. From the ethereal "Do the Limbo Dance" to the savagely rocking "Freedom For the World," you can definitely appreciate David's full bass voice - a voice that resembles three muskrats mauling a balloon. The song "Hot Shot City (Live in Berlin)" is particularly good.
Good Stuff, April 30, 2003 Reviewer: Devon from LA, USA The songs of Daunting Hangover send trembles down my spine the way too much chili greets the toilet with happy tidings of corn husks. My CD-player/alarm clock wakes me up each bright, sunny morning to the breathy rasps of the most talented singer/actor/songwriter/vacuum cleaner salesman of the 90's, and immediately I know that if I stay in bed much longer, Darwin Hockenfogle's lyrical barrage will stun me into utter immobility, so thanks to him, I have a long, full and productive day, as I'm perpetually wary of going to bed lest I wake up once again to the melodious dog-chants of Doobie Horkleblarble as he without fail stimulates me to rise from the bed the same way moist mushrooms and adolescent larva rise from month-old haggis in the basement. "Looking For-Best of Disco Hammer [IMPORT]" is by far the best excuse for human/animal hybrid fornication the world has seen to date, and the song "Hot Shot City" is particularly good.
My friends are cueing up to borrow this one, April 28, 2003 Reviewer: Steve Davis from The Crucible, Sheffield As one of the greatest snooker players of all time, I know a thing or two about a smooth action and in this belting collection of hits David Smergendorf certainly rattles his jaws. The album begins cautiously with "Looking for Freedom" and "Wir Zwei Allein" taking the listener off three cushions and back to baulk. But when Hofftassler takes a shot for nothing on "Crazy for You" and finds himself on a colour with "Do the Limbo Dance", it soon becomes apparent we could be on for a big break. What follows is a mixture of careful playing for position in and around the pink ("Save the World" and "These Lovin' Eyes") and some audacious long-pots, notably "Je T'Aime Means I Love You". Whilst I don't think the album is quite a 147, it certainly deserves five stars. The song "Hot Shot City" is particularly good.
the john lennon of our time, April 25, 2003 Reviewer: toni nicole from germany not since millivanilli has an artist been so ridiculed, yet so underrated and unappreciated. david hasselhoff is the john lennon of our time, able to unite people with his music all over the world. after listening to this record i can honestly say i am a better person, and its all thanks to one man who dared look for freedom. thank you david for sharing your gift with one little german girl, and the universe.
Call him meister, April 25, 2003 Reviewer: Heimlich Minürfer from Hamburg, Germany I must confess I had never heard of David Hasselhoff before today but after a particularly aimless bit of surfing, I found myself here by chance reading the many warm recommendations of his work. I was soon hot-footing it down to my local record store in anticipation of something very special. Returning home, I tore off the wrapper and experienced the momentary sensation that I might have made a mistake. How wrong I was. As the opening track began, I knew immediately that I was on a highway to the heart of music itself. The intensity of track 2, Wir Zwei Allein, confirmed the impression. Within seconds I was performing a jack boot dance to this stunning power ballad.
That was just the start. By track 4, Do the Limbo Dance, I was hastily bundling together every record I have ever bought in preparation for a trip to the nearest charity shop. By track five, Flying on the Wings of Tenderness, tears of joy were streaming down my face. I admit it crossed my mind: can life ever be this good again?
Little did I know what was to come. As track 6, Hot Shot City, kicked in, I experienced what can only be described as a convulsive fit of pure happiness. Coming to, I was aware that in my ecstasy, I had broken every piece of furniture in the room. I now knew that life would always be this good, whenever I put on Looking For... the Best of David Hasselpfft.
For the sake of mankind buy this album, April 24, 2003 Reviewer: A music fan from London United Kingdom In the year 3004 historians will sight this album as catalyst for world peace for once you've listened to this album you have no choice but to marvel and honour the greatness of mankind. I didn't think it was possible for a human being to produce such powerful, expressive and emotional music. Big D has made a collection of pieces that transcend musical genres and reached a point that has limits. John Cage, Brian Eno and Philip Glass must all be thinking how idiotic their attempts are in comparison to Big D's audio masterpieces. Boys you've just had a harsh lesson by a musical genius. The Germans may be rubbish at war but they know their music.
Take all your CD's and burn them for once you've listened to "Looking For - Best of...[IMPORT]" they will seem like sounds made by a bunch of retarded chimps. The song "Hot Shot City" is particularly good
A man on the verge of eclipsing the sun, April 23, 2003 Reviewer: MR DANIEL FELSTEAD from London United Kingdom Take all your CD's and burn them for in one single dynamic stroke David has rewritten the history book of music. It's as if Dave has been possessed by the spirits of John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin and Bob Hope. Through his sensitive hands he weaves masterpeace after masterpiece that instantly have a timeless quality to them whilst still retaining their edgy contemporary/street roots. This is a mark of a true creative genius at work. Sit back and feel his greatness, it will be the most awesome ride of your life. Is he the son of God?, maybe. Has he changed the course of modern culture? Definitely. When it comes to music the Germans are not often wrong and they love big D.
'Hot shot city' is the greatest song ever recorded. FACT
David Hasselhoff, a handsome blue-eyed Baltimore native, is one of the most recognized faces on television throughout the world. Named one of "TV's Ten Most Powerful Stars" by TV Guide, and "Most Watched TV Star" by the Guinness Book of World Records, he is also one of the busiest. Hasselhoff is not only the star and an executive producer of the hit syndicated series Baywatch, but is also a director, an accomplished singer, and popular international recording artist. Moreover, he has recently added 'Broadway star' to his long list of achievements.
Originally intending to start his professional life in musical theater, Hasselhoff instead seized an early opportunity to begin a successful career in television. He first came to the attention of the viewing public when he starred as "Dr. Snapper Foster" on CBS' soap opera Young and The Restless. During his six-year tenure, Hasselhoff became one of the most popular leading men on daytime television and earned a huge fan following, many of whom continue to identify him as "Snapper."
Lured by NBC's Brandon Tartikoff to move from daytime to prime time, Hasselhoff left the cast of The Young and The Restless and went on to star for four years as Michael Knight in NBC's Knight Rider. The role garnered him a "People's Choice Award" for most popular actor. Though production for Knight Rider ended in 1986, the show is still enjoying a national run in repeat airings on the USA Network and has been in strip syndication in more than 100 U.S. markets since the late 1980's. In addition to the show's popularity in America, Knight Rider is a smash overseas (where it continues to run in some 82 plus countries) resulting in Hasselhoff's first major international fan following.
The success of Knight Rider laid the groundwork for Hasselhoff's next foray into episodic television -Baywatch - the hour long drama series, which debuted on NBC in 1989, focuses on the adventures of Los Angeles County Lifeguards. Though it enjoyed strong ratings, the network canceled the series after only one season. Undeterred, Hasselhoff and his partners acquired the rights to the show and based on Hasselhoff's popularity overseas, they secured financing and brought Baywatch back to life in 1991. Baywatch, which has served as a model for independent syndication, has become a piece of American pop culture as well as an international phenomenon. In addition to his acting and executive producing duties, Hasselhoff recently tackled the challenge of directing. His first directorial effort "Come Fly with Me," earned the show's highest ratings of the season. Currently in its eleventh year of production, the show enjoys continued success as Baywatch Hawaii.
During his career, Hasselhoff has flexed his acting muscles in numerous other television projects. Hasselhoff's most recent role as a fireman in Orly Adelson's movie of the week, One True Love aired on CBS, October 25, 2000. In 1998, he portrayed Marvel Comics' legendary hero Nick Fury Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Previously, Mace Neufeld and Robert Rehme, producers of the feature films "Clear and Present Danger" and "Patriot Games," hired Hasselhoff to star as the hero of Gridlock (1996), an action-packed made for television movie. Before this, Hasselhoff switched gears to play an evil jewel thief opposite Michael Gross in the Fox movie-of-the-week, Avalanche (1994). Other successful television performances include Knight Rider 2000, The Cartier Affair with Joan Collins, Terror on London Bridge and The Ring of the Musketeers.
Despite his enormous success in television, Hasselhoff's childhood dream of a recording career had, by the late 1980's, yet to be fulfilled. However, that all changed when he recorded "Looking for Freedom," just at the end of the Cold War. The song quickly became an anthem for the German people and it raced to the number one spot on the German charts where it remained for eight consecutive weeks in 1989.
The album, Looking for Freedom, hit the top of the German charts as well, staying there for three months. It went gold and triple platinum in Europe while on its way to becoming Germany's number one selling album of the year. Hasselhoff was named "Most Popular and Best Selling Artist of the Year" in Germany. This honor was followed up by a twenty-city standing room only tour, with Hasselhoff playing to well over 250,000 adoring European fans.
The most thrilling performance of his singing career, however, came when Hasselhoff was invited to perform, "Looking For Freedom," live on top of the Berlin Wall on New Year's Eve, 1989. "It was the first time Germany had been unified, and close to a million East and West German fans stood together in the freezing cold at midnight watching me perform. I was overcome with emotion," said Hasselhoff.
He has toured on two more occasions, in 1992 and 1994, and has since released six more albums in Europe and one in the United States. Currently, Hasselhoff is recording an album to be released in 2001. He is especially excited about this project as it marks the first time he will be singing in Spanish.
In October 2000, Hasselhoff conquered another childhood dream, as he took on the starring role in Jekyll & Hyde on Broadway.
In addition to his time on the set and in the recording studio, Hasselhoff is active with the Starlight Children's Foundation and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. He is also a key participant in "Camp Baywatch," which helps disadvantaged youth in Los Angeles.
David Hasselhoff is a multi-faceted entertainer who enjoys his fast-paced work schedule and the constant challenge of new projects. His favorite roles, however, continue to be as husband to actress Pamela Bach and as father to their daughters, Taylor-Ann and Hayley. When their hectic schedules permit the Hasselhoffs enjoy escaping on fun, romantic, exotic vacations, such as their recent trips to Kenya, Micronesia and Italy."
