Apparently, 78,000 of the 437,000 members of the National Guard are serving overseas, including Iraq and Afghanistan. No wonder there's not enough help for the people hit by the hurricane. The commitment in Iraq costs lives at home aswell as in Iraq

I hope the forthcoming investigations will look into why 3,000 National Guard are in Iraq with most of the heavy equipment (including generators and high-water and other vehicles which could have helped with the rescue effort).
