The original invention was to make a welding torch that wasn't as dangerous as existing ones - this is exactly what he did, talk of "it takes more energy to split the water than is released" is irrelevant here. However, the car part IS a scam... You would need another energy source to split the water.

There is a lot of stuff misrepresented in this article. This technology has existed for years. The energy required for the process is just too great to make it a viable substitute for fossil fuels. However, it could act in a hybrid form and increase fuel efficiency but not eradicate oil altogether.

I have a video of me doing some crazy things with my body (not sexual). I've seen it before on Guinness World Records, but not sure if it's good enough to send.

Spin that shit is the best you have so far, merely for the comic value. His glassy eyed, dumb staring face is what makes it... and spinning a couch cushion is pretty hardcore.

Yeah right! Like it could be true! It's not true. It's a load of bull. It is really just too good to be true I say. If it is true, then holy shamoly, it could save us all. But it isn't true. Is it? No!

In terms of conservation of energy, mass has huge amounts of energy. If they have managed to convert large proportions of the water into energy during this process then there is no reason why this wouldn't work.

I have heard of this technology previously so I do believe it is possible. I think it would solve many problems and make the world a better cleaner place but the question is will the corporations that run this world allow us to power our cars on something that cannot be taxed?????

This is 100% genuine. HHO is more commonly called Brown's Gas, it was discovered by Yull Brown in the 1970s. You use an electrolyser to split water into mon-atomic hydrogen and oxygen, the resulting gas can then be burned as a fuel. The temperature of the flame is determined by a reaction between the flame and the surface it's in contact with, so it's not hot enough to burn your fingers but will easily melt steel. Yull Brown received many offers to sell his technology, mostly from oil companies, but he refused due to worries that the technology might be suppressed and not made available to the public. Unfortunately Brown's Gas has never been exploited to its fullest advantage, although research on it is still being conducted by many companies and universities.

To some of you out there who are skeptical, but for the wrong reasons: Yes, HHO is the same as H2O, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's a trick. Standard room-temp, normal-pressure, liquid H2O contains a proportion of generally 2 Hs to 1 O in various combinations. Water is usually HOH, whereby the bonds between H and O trap all of the energy, but it can be found in the form HHO, with a H-to-H bond. The question is, what are the energy implications, as this is more complex. Some people touched on that matter cannot be created nor destroyed, however the question is about whether humans can do more with the energy of combusting freed Hydrogen than it takes to free the Hs in the first place. The miracle could be that the energy required for electrolysis is less than that released by our use in our various forms of combustion.

Does not look like a scam, do a google search and see the welder for sale!!!Surely by HHO don't they mean splitting the H2O into HO- and H+. How these ions remain stable for any period is the mystery. Maybe the 'special electrolysis process' stabilises them somehow (it's been years since I did Chemistry A-level)The car thing does not make sense to me either, unless the water is pre electrolized and the 'HHO' used as chemical energy storage.

Yep, it'll work - but you'll have to put in more energy to split the water to Hydrogen & Oxygen than you'll get back. So where is that energy coming from? A petrol engine in the back of his car?

There have been people trying to patent stuff like this for years. You'll notice he has to turn the electricity on before it works! For the record there are other ways of combining H and O like H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide - hair bleach) This was used by the British space program for decades, because it's a liquid and stores half the energy of the seperate gases in much less volume. HHO could exist but only for short periods as a transition state it is certainly not stable and would rearrange spontaneously to H2O - bang. At best this is like fuel cells, a storage medium for electricity generated by other means - oil...

It is possible that it is really using Hydrogen + Oxygen: 2 H2 + 02 => 2 H2O and the welder is really powered by electricity. In this case, nothing particularly remarkable about it - just that Fox have oversimplified the idea to the point that it becomes wrong. But I suspect it's a joke.

Er... just a few little things, you can't say H20 is the same as HHO necessarily because there are various ways of combining elements such as dative bonds (I don't really know tons about it). Bradley, Oxygen has two electron gaps and therefore has the potential to bond with more than one element, Richard, I think ozone is O3 unless the GCSE geography syllabus is wrong but I'd have to agree that the electrolysis of water is probably being overlooked, just like in the Hydrogen fusion experiments, and so I'm not sure how efficient this process would be. Nice idea though...

I have to admit, if this were real then the very second he declared his invention to the world, then think about it, maybe the government would try to cover it up and pay him off to keep his mouth shut . Think about the amount of income the country gets from fossil fuels. And another thing, I agree with toast man, April fools, we do that stuff here in the UK. A fews years back we had one about a spaghetti tree so maybe this is your, slightly ironic (biggest poluter in the world AMERICA) version. That is all.

I think we need a simple physics lesson here. There is something called 'conservation of energy', which basically says that energy cannot be created or destroyed, only turned from one form to another. When fuel is burned, stored chemical energy is converted into heat energy. Fuels such as petrol (or gasoline for the Americans) are good fuels because they have a lot of stored chemical energy. Water has very little stored chemical energy. Electrolysis converts water into hydrogen and oxygen. Hydrogen is a good fuel because of the stored energy. However, the energy stored in hydrogen has to come from somewhere. It comes from the process of electrolysis. Any energy that comes from burning hydrogen will have to have been put there in the first place by electrolysis. There is no such thing as free energy! Oh, and HHO would imply a molecule containing two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. There is only one way of arranging such a molecule - its called water, H2O. In short, it's anAapril fools.

Yeah, there's no way. If it were true the government would have killed him or something, then snapped up the rights and hidden them away. Nahh, only kidding, but I wouldn't put it past them; looking at their current overseas escapades.

HHO is either H2 + O (Hydrogen gas + ozone, which is unstable), or H2O (water). In reality, electrolysis of water produces 2 H2 + O2 (hydrogen and oxygen gases). Apart from the explosive risk (remember the Hindenberg airship?), the energy used to split water into its component gases will far exceed the energy output of then recombining back into water by burning. So where is the extra energy coming from in order to electrolise the water in the hybrid car? Answer, from the petrol being burned.

This is rubbish. Hydrogen can bond with two other elements, however oxygen can only bond with one. HHO is an impossible compound. SCAM!

Well if it is true then it is really fantastic news for everybody. You can't put a price on water so there will be no catches. However it does seem a little bizarre and I would rather see it with my own eyes before believing an Internet video.
