It's considerably more poignant without the needless reference. Innit?

As an author the censored, or cut version was better as the point was made. The show's writers made their point even without such explicite referrences to 'weapons of mass disintergration' and the visual cue of the yellow band rifle. To leave in the last line would have been to beat a dead horse, set it ablaze, bury it, exhume it then burn it again. As it is the biting commentary was left intact without the final cut dialogue belabouring what Simpsons writers wanted to say.

much better without needless reference, but it is quite interesting that it was censored in the first place.

I have to agree that the censored version actually works better... The line that was cut does seem pretty redundant since it's obvious that the dialogue is a reference to the Iraq war anyway.
