A service to mankind or the beginnings of an environmental disaster? If the price was right, would you venture into space? Share your thoughts.

It's going to happen, do I need a medical before I fly because I bet it's a real pain for travel insurance. Mr Branson, good luck with your tests...

A tiny jump out of the atmosphere... not such a big deal as it may seem. It's not "space". For example: ISS is at 280km high, thats the distance Hamburg-Berlin. Take a real look at the dimensions in our solar system. Do some calculations with speed and time. Where do you want to go... some cold rocky planets...?! After a 3 year trip? Send robots instead. Or take care of the earth. Or do both. Best wishes.

I think it's brilliant. It's the first step on my way to buying a Millennium Falcon. (plus a Tie fighter)

I would go if I had the money. Do they need cabin crew? I would work for nothing!! - You're a long time dead and life is but "a span". If you did die up there, what a way to go!! If not, what a high. The cosmos rules!! Why would this be an environmental disaster? The only future is to reach out into space. If you are reading Mr Branson, I'm available.

It's very easy for the public to see this and say "That's fantastic! Isn't it incredible that this entrepreneur has decided to make space flight available to ordinairy citizens. What a great thing to do." It is far less glamorous and less savory to build and operate a free hospital or to give away free housing to the homeless or to feed the world's hungry or to apply one's energy to ending war. Given the opportunity afforded by his vast fortune to affect real and positive change, this wealthy irresponsible person has chosen instead to cater to the whims of other wealathy and irresponsible people. I find it difficult to be either enthused or impressed. That is probably what your screeners would deem an unsuitable or gratuitously offensive comment but I am happy that at least one minion of this vapid playboy has read the reply of an ordinairy person appalled by the abomination of such waste and selfishness.

As a statement, we should keep our eyes on the stars. Even if it is not for everyone, the inspiration it provides looking back at our fragile earth is very much worth the cost.

I think it is great. Always forward. If I had the cash, I would do it...

I notice that all of the 'figures' in the computer graphics section are tall slender people. Will there be provision for fatties or people of restricted growth, or is this service only going to be open to "beautiful people"? It's already going to be kind of exclusive. Hopefully all the rich, perfectly built people will get on this thing, fly up into space and damn well stay there. Leaving the world for us normal-shaped, average income types to get on with.

I think it is totally unnecessary and a terrible waste of energy which is a limited valuable resource. In these days of virtual technology it is possible to simulate the same experiences in a simulator.

Who cares about environmental concerns, it's a step forward... and why not. Earth can't last forever with the growing population... plus, it's like Halo, kind of, and I love Halo and Halo 2.

WOOOOOOOO GO TO SPACE!!! WOOOOOOOO AND DESTROY THE EARTH!!! WOOOOOOOO KILL TWO BIRDS WITH ONE STONE!

Guest: El oso (1148 days ago)

Thought 1. Service to mankind was the cause of an environmental disaster. Thought 2. Why not, 10 Euros or so, we're already doomed anyway.

Guest: Psynn Ickle (1148 days ago)

I cannot imagine a more expensive and irresponsible toy for the child of Man to play with to the detriment of this tiny fragile earth. And for what? A few moments of gut satisfaction that they have 'accomplished' more than their neighbour. Can't you think of a more temperate way of satisfying your greed than to pay homage to a cynical advertising campaign that 'guarantees eternal familial incredulity'? Anyway, you'll only be a passenger. A vehicular parasite. Try climbing a mountain. Or parascending across a gorge. Much more challenging. Anyone can ride an amusement car.

Personally I can see 2 main reasons for not doing it; 1. I'd fill my pants ( I'm scared of flying) and 2. I'd puke up in zero G. Apart from that we need adventure and goals in our lives or we'd simply stagnate and go nowhere, literally.

Guest: IRISHMAN (1146 days ago)

SOUNDS AMAZING, WHY NOT, AS HUMANS GO WERE HERE FOR A GOOD TIME NOT A LONG TIME,AS FOR ENVIROMENTAL ISSUES, HOW IS THIS PROJECT EXACTLY GOING TO CAUSE ANY MORE ISSUES TO ARISE REGARDING THE ENVIROMENT? IF PEOPLE ARE SO CONCERNED, STOP FLUSHING TOILETS AFTER ONE USE AND TURN OFF ELECTRICIAL PRODUCTS RATHER THAN HAVING THEM ON STAND BY, THAT SAVES MORE ENERGY! COME ON SPACE!!

Guest: mr c (1148 days ago)

Oh yes can't wait. It's the future.

Guest: Pam (1147 days ago)

No, I would not! I think we need to spend more time taking care of what we have on Earth. There is going to be nothing left for our children except space if we don't. I think they should totally stop public taxpayer money being spent on the space program. If the "rich" want to invest, fine. I am sick of my money going for it when we have people that need homes here in the US.

Guest: Mine (1148 days ago)

Environmental disaster? They burn oxygen and hydrogen so what is left? Water. How is that bad?

Guest: Dave (1148 days ago)

No chance whatsoever. It's dangerous enough on terra firma. I think this comes under more money than sense.

Guest: A concerned Martian (1148 days ago)

First the probes, now this. This is terrible news.

Latest comment: "I think this is awesome, if I could afford it, I'd do it. The enviro chat has got me a bit baffled - this is a tiny rocket that would fly, what, once a week max, compare that to commercial air travel. Plus Richard Branson has pledged $3000,000,000 (yes, 3 billion dollars) to help the environment over the next 10 years, he's made his money, is living his dreams, and is giving something back, hats off to the man.
