Guest: Dean (567 days ago)

i would love to go there... but it is a total waste to just put old planes there and leave them for years on end....

more environmentally friendly?! The carbon footprint or producing the materials is vast in itsself, before the design and production stage. a lot of these planes could be refurbished with new efficient engines and such for a fraction of the impact surely...

Where is this at??

friedkoalafriedkoala (637 days ago)

Several web sites place the value at an estimated $150 to $400 billion dollars worth of planes and armaments. However this 4 times lower than some sites estimate. Some of the fighters are sealed and could be rearmed and ready for use in 18 hours. Some of the bombers in 30. If you ask really nicely you can buy a 25 year old working F15 fighter for about 4 - 8 million dollars. At least you could until 9/11 anyway. Now they just use them for spares.

maverickrazormaverickrazor (637 days ago)

Anybody know what that is in tax Dollars? A bloody lot is what

Guest: Hac_Drone (467 days ago)

these aircraft ARE slated for recycling...they will be chopped up into bit size pieces and melted down. Why? Because they have reached their fatigue limit or designed life span.

captainamaranthCaptainAmaranth (520 days ago)

Perhaps a waste - but they do this because it's cheaper and more environmentally friendly to get new materials than to recycle a plane.
