This is such a great debate. However, Hawking's logic is not informed by this evolution in the time-travel discussion: that the time travel facility is itself time-bound: between the timeframe beginning with the first operation of the 'time-machine' and ending when it stops working. I parenthise 'time-machine' as time-tunnel may be a more appropriate name for what is being considered here.

"Dream on. Ain't never going to happen." A bit more than a century ago most people didn't believe it was possible for man to fly...I believe nothing is impossible

"Hawking said that time has never been breached as we have never been invaded by time travelling tourists from the future." If you watch the video, it notes that you'd only be able to slow time, not reverse it. "as a century would have gone by and I doubt any records would still exist." I'm pretty sure that records a century old would survive...

Here is the problem. Say he hits the speed of light. At this point he has gone 100 years. Even if he somehow ended up back at earth which I highly doubt would happen, there would be no proof of anything as a century would have gone by and I doubt any records would still exist. This will be one of those things always dreamed about and portrayed in movies but we'll just never get to see it.

no actually. its humanly impossible. To approach the speed of light, you would need 100% efficiency with energy usage. but due to thermodynamics, that is impossible because energy will always be lost as sound and heat

Info: Here is a little clip of how time travel can occur. In this case traveling to the future. Traveling back in time is another issue all together since you may need a black hole (hard to get there or get away alive if fallen into it) or a time machine. A time machine that can only work from the day and time is turned ON and left ON. This time machine, would have to use many laser cannons on a spiral to simulate a black hole and warp time. Therefore, you can't go back before the machine is turned on. Still, this is just a theory and has not been proven yet.
