Whale meat is healthy, good, and whale hunting keeps the population numbers right (with respect to the entire system). But OVER-HUNTING is a bad thing, always, when considering the ecological balance. As far as I know, Japanese whaling industry (referred to as "research") does not listen to the experts.

not entirely sure why eating a whale is sicker than eating a chicken or a pig. At least the whale gets to swim around and do proper whale things all his life.
