Once more in refute of your statement of the legal requirement WORLD over - here it woks the other way round. If police want you to do anything, they either need a warrant, a special order, or your permission, unless the plan to arrest you in which the same applies. And they must first give you their name, number and station, and then sufficient cause to do whatever the hell it is they want you to do.

Hey Ethel, you're wrong. I know of no country that requires you willingly surrender your address simply on the whim of a police officer. Over here in England, we have a few guidelines to allow officers to uphold the law without being hypocrites, as well as some others to generally avoid the use of police power. Having a police badge is not a get-respect-free ticket. It has to be earned just like anyone else has to, they're just in a better position to do that, nothing more.

Respect is a mutual thing, and the officer showed the boy no respect from the start. So the boy showed none back, which is just right. It's true that many kids these days are far too aggressive and rude, but this kid? No way. All he did was question the police officer, which is what any person should do.
