i worked aboard the qe2 for a while and c deck has the longest internal view on any passenger ship. we sailed through storms of note in the north atlantic and the doors at the other end of the corridor just dissappeared out of sight... in these storms we were generally to be found riding upturned tables back and forth along the outside decks. some of us are still around to tell you how much fun we had. lots. . . .

Ships of that size are designed to bend in these circumstances, if they didn't they would snap in half.

Although bendy structures are alarming to behold, they are actually perfectly safe. As long as they are designed to bend, it's OK. Consider trees that move in the wind, or the upward flexing of a 747's wingtips as they take the flight loads.
