Richard Dawkins answers deeply disturbed Christian

The author of 'The God Delusion' gets to the point, bluntly.

harrybanks - having never met the author, I can't comment on him personally, but the book is still a resounding and comprehensive rebuttal of Dawkins arguments. As far as Dawkins' scientific ability goes, my point is thathe might very well be the best biologist in the world, but that doesn't qualify him to talk about theology/philosophy, as he now does.

John-The Dawkins delusion is absoulute crap. I briefly met the author and despite him being a proffesor, the reason he wrote the book is cleary personal grudge nothing more. Richard Dawkins is more than quite good on evo biology, he is at worst one of the top 5 experts in the world. Read his other books. The God delusion is not bile either, its just a poorly executed book which could have been thought through a lot better, definately not bile though.

I just got back from the Pyrenees, on a flight that was full of pilgrims from Lourdes. Once I'd got over my annoyance at them spending ages checking in polypins of 'holy' water I concluded I rather envied them. They just carry on in their simple-minded way, confident that their imaginary friends will do the right thing, while the rest of us actually make the aeroplanes fly and grow the crops and build the houses. A faith built on superstition rather than facts must be quite comforting.

If you want some further arguments against humanism in general, I recommend Black Mass: Apocalyptic religion and the death of utopia, by John Gray, in my opinion one of the foremost thinkers of our time. Perhaps I misinterpret the tone of the book, but it is hard to misinterpret Dawkins' tone in the numerous video clips on the web - he clearly shows bile towards almost everybody who disagrees with him.

This! Each to their own! Why argue about beliefs when it would be much easier to respect each other? Religion and science are two different interpretations OF THE SAME THING

Guest: John (534 days ago)

The Dawkins Delusion shows that some Chrisitans, at least, value rational thought and reason much more highly than Richard Dawkins does.

Guest: John (534 days ago)

T Style have you read the God Delusion? Or just skimmed it? Richard Dawkins is quite good on evolutionary biology, but he is not a philosopher, and replaces reason with bile - much like most of his opponents. Don't believe me? Read The Dawkins Delusion.

Religion is a drug. Some can't live without it, it kills others, some have tried it, others never want to. There's certainly a lot of money in it! Dawkins should not try and tell these junkies to give up, they're all doomed!!

harrybanksharrybanks (535 days ago)

I am a big fan of dawkins but since the god delusion he has become more likeable, his books on evolution are so amazingly deep and rich. He is on stronger ground when teaching, not attacking

@bsummer1963 - What is your proof for asserting what you believe to be a fact?

Guest: bsummer1963 (536 days ago)

We are between every knee should bow and every knee shall bow. Dawkins will one day bow along with all those that agree with him. Not a belief but a fact!

Guest (537 days ago)

I hate Dawkins so much. He only argues against religion...

Latest comment: "Neil, why do you suppose pilgrims can't also be farmers, or builders, or aeroplane engineers? Not all Christians are monks. "

Guest: T Style (534 days ago)

Captain Amaranth, Dawkins does not say there definitely isn't a god, he just says there is no empirical evidence for one therefore why conjure one up. That is not the exact opposite of a religious zealot's assertion that there definitely is a god. Dawkins just says there probably isn't one. Just like there probably isn't a teapot orbiting the sun somewhere between Mars and Jupiter. You can't (easily) prove there isn't, but why imagine that there is?

correct

Haha amazin i thought i knew the accent, this was done in eden court theatre in inverness, where im from. UHI stands for the university of the highlands and islands for anyone who cares, which i assume will be no-one.

Guest: miky (536 days ago)

Well untill i snuff it im not going to know if there is a god or not, if you want to beleive there is then im happy for you . I personally think whoever wrote the bible was smoking crack.

Be thankful that you have a life, and forsake your vain and presumptuous desire for a second one. - Richard Dawkins

Guest: Batman (536 days ago)

to be fair, there are so many people that try and reason with such strong believers and they get nowhere so by being blunt about it at least Dawkins skips a few wasted hours of debate. All he's said is clearly true. The guy's going on about having walked with God and Jesus amongst other delusional rantings. You can't reason with that kind of insanity. A life of religion is a life wasted.

Guest (536 days ago)

Most atheists don't give a crap & let you religious nuts get on with it. Maybe it just bugs him more than others

Guest (537 days ago)

He has a right to say whatever he believes. I hope the people in the audience did not pay to hear that garbage!

Guest (537 days ago)

Yeah, Dan. He doesn't believe in god! What a prick!!

Guest: Dan (537 days ago)

What a lazy-minded man Dawkins is.

Guest: JimmyBob (537 days ago)

A belief is something you BELIEVE in, but that which is NOT ABSOLUTE. I don't care what you believe in, but please don't impart your beliefs on people who don't want to share those beliefs. I don't understand why there are so many religious fanatics who can't understand the simple definition of belief.

Guest: John (534 days ago)

One more thing :) My apologies for my earlier comment - it should have been addressed to Captain Amaranth, not T Style.

harrybanksharrybanks (534 days ago)

And it looks like T style actually has read the book, its pretty much word for word what the book says. The book also does not show he is irrational, it is just typical Dawkins style, he is a reductionist biologist, a certain approach to science, the book simply reduces religion to what he percieves is. It is just absolute un-wavering logic, which some see as a flaw

Guest: The Church of Atheist Zealots (536 days ago)

And lo, Richard Dawkins did say "Let there be Science." And there was Science. And Richard Dawkins did look upon Science and was pleased.

captainamaranthCaptainAmaranth (536 days ago)

No one I have heard of has yet to give me a satisfactory argument or piece of evidence either proving or disproving the existence of a god or similar greater being. So it really bugs me when people start treating their views, whatever they may be, to be fact (like Dawkins so often does).
