To "Mr I know more about engines than you ever will" ... You're assuming a lot there, based on very little. I’d originally missed the engine running on (no sound connected) but now I listen, It sounds headless to me, or even as though it took out a con-rod. The resistance within the engine as it ate itself would be enough to lift the rear, and would allow it to spin-on afterwards once de-clutched.

This is a common result of seized engines/drivetrain failure in FWD drag cars. Just youtube "Why FWD drag racing is dangerous".... On a 10 second run and having to deal with the amount of torque-steer a FWD and LSD’d/ATB’d drag car will be generating, I seriously doubt anyone has time to check dials. Pre-Flights? Yes. Heat of moment? No. In my track-slut I’m only running rev-counter and oil pressure up front, the rest is stack-digital and mostly there for logging after the run.

Listen to how the revs don’t climb smoothly in 2nd gear. They flatten out notably. That’s the little sign he got as to a developing problem. Then we get the bang… Con-rod? Dropped a valve and took the head off? Burnt piston? Over-bored Cylinder wall blowing though? Sheared crank-shaft at either end? It could be all manner of things that we can’t guess at from watching that Vid.

Anyway… I note with interest that you don’t offer a contradicting hypothesis… merely a “You’re wrong and I know more than you”. You can’t ask for a structured counter-argument if you don’t make one yourself you know… AND… I had to google “Max Power”...We don’t have it in Sweden. Do people REALLY read that? If it’s not about tuning a Volvo or Saab, most tend not to be interested here. Now.. do we kiss’n make up, or do I have to call you a stupid yank again? :D

There's a difference between an engine seizing and one kicking a leg out of bed. 20 seconds?, no oil or water? blockage or leak of fuel? Ha, good job there's some experts here :-)

To the person who thought it seized. In fact I'm not a Yank, as you put it but I know a lot more about cars and engines than you will ever know. But let’s look at some evidence here.

1. A drag car of that quality will have close do a dozen dials inside showing everything like oil, water and fuel, pressure and temperature, and often have 2 readings of each from different points on the engine. Seized engines are caused by a major blockage or leak of fuel or water, which would have shown up on these dials. The chance of the driver ignoring these or they misreading is nil.

2. A seized engine is not instant, I have watched an engine seize and it took about 20 seconds from when it started to struggle to it stopping.

3. An engine of that power would not suddenly stop (if seized engines actually did that), its own power would rip it to bits. I have seen race grade titanium valves smashed like twigs by engines probably less powerful than that.

4. If your max power diploma is correct and it did suddenly seize, the front wheels would have locked up. They didn't. There was no tyre squeal from the tyres AT ALL.

5. About 9-10 seconds, just after you see the bang, you hear the engine still turning at a very high pitched sound, in fact a lot higher tone that what he changed gears. Compare this to the tone of the engine just before the change from 1st to 2nd where the engine would have been close to red line. The sound after was a lot higher. That engine went way way past redline. I look forward to your intelligent reply.

I'm thinking front wheel drive. If you listen there is a first to second gearchange then the revs clearly rise and the rear of the car lifts. This suggests the driver hit first again and not third. The cloud of crap coming out of the bottom of the car is gears/oil/clutch/driver's breakfast etc.

Considering you can't spell explanation, I'll assume you're a stupid Yank. There.. That should have fixed it all round :D

The guy simply seized his engine, causing the whole drivetrain to jam up.. he clearly realised this and hit the clutch, letting the car freewheel.... as it were. Most drag.cars of this calibre have a sequential gearbox, and "hitting first by accident" on the way up though the gears is about as likely as a 747 pilot accidentally hitting reverse.
