Dan and Tom...I dont think this is Jeremy Iron's speaking about his views..I imagine Amnesty needed an actor to help make a decent advert.

The Death Penalty also costs millions more dollars than life imprisonment. In legal fees etc. It just makes me feel sick that the US government (and the other govts) kill people..even if they are criminals. The state should not have the power to kill.

Agreed Dan, even Jesus was reading from the bible.

Why should a criminal be killed, if he could work for the society for the rest of his life?

Guest: Dan (738 days ago)

Like all great societies, when we want moral depth and clarity... we turn to those who make their living saying things written by other people. Oy!

Deterrent never came into it.Justice and retribution are the issues.I wonder how he would feel if someone raped tortored and killed say his son or daughter.I think he would want the state to exact justice and retribution on behalf of his son or daughter. What about the rights of the victim?

I have to disagree. The death penalty should be reserved for crimes such as skateboarding or listening to your iPod with only one earphone in.

Latest comment: "Do you not think that people sometimes forefit their own human rights by their gross infringement of somebody elses? I am not a great advocate of the death penalty, and obviously some laws need reforming. But some crimes are so awful that the perpetrators cannot be let free, and should play no part in normal society. "
