We have similar places here in Sweden. Minimum security etc. People used to come here form Poland and commit basic crimes in order to be put in prison. In Swedish prisons you get excellent food, TV and so on. The system has changed though. Visitors to the country get deported if they break the law, and charged at home.

Latest comment: "@ Swede, I'm always impressed at how perfect the Scandanavians speak English. I can't even speak Gaeilge as well as you speak English. "

Is that the comfortable prison for only islamic terrorism convicts who demands for more rights (than all the infidels) in prison?

So, how many chances do you give a criminal before someone decides he can't be rescued? What then? How do you treat those who can't, or don't want, to be rescued? At what expense to the taxpayer?

irishfellaIrishFella (379 days ago)

...and you can't educate and reform if you're treating people like animals. Some can't be rescued, many can.

PC614, you're most probably right. However, I think the Scandanavians would probably use prison to reform rather than punish. Punishment on it's own, doesn't work. If prison on it's own isn't a deterrant, then it must be used to educate and reform.

To be fair that's probably low security, where inmates can purchase their own pre-approved items, etc. Same as in the UK. You see newspapers churning up stories about how soft prisons are, these would be low-security non-risk ones.

Country of choice for my next crime spree

Pete, don't be silly. Butlin's furniture was never that good.

Guest (379 days ago)

I normally pay £20 a night to stay somewhere like that!

Guest: Pete Star (379 days ago)

Are you sure that's not Butlins?

Now I know where I am going for my next holiday! All I got to do is to do a Scandinavian style crime! Rob an elk or something! LOL

I have been told that in Norway, if you go to prison, you run up a dept which you have to pay off when you get out. I don't know how true this is.

The maximum security prisons are the most expensive ones for the tax-payers.
