@The Buddhist: no we do not have to assume that Omar is right only because he speaks arabic. at no point he claimed that the translation is inaccurate, he only claimed that the translating person is an "idiot". I can see at least 2 other reasons why one could say that (e.g. he's an idiot, because he's translating it to serve the "evil" west to negatively portray Muslims...)

It's easier to negatively portray something that people don't understand. Since this video was posted on a 'western' website with a target audience of primarily non-Arabic speakers, the creator / translator of this clip probably assumed that people would see the title, read the subtitles, be outraged and disgusted and start hurling anti-islamic comments about... propaganda has always used this technique. Since Omar is the only commenter to speak Arabic, you have to assume that he's right and the translation is either inaccurate or a worse deliberate piece of propaganda. Either way, it's not a funny video and does nothing to challenge the viewers mind... rubbish like this should never appear on this site.

Hi guys im back:) no need to hate me.. haha. anyway so ima give u my side of the story, its translated by MEMRI TV.. which is indeed founded by Yigal Carom.. hmmmm lets think he is aaaaaaaa former Israeli millitary intelligence... wierd.. then everything they translate from arabic to english seems to be something to show how insane and radical Islam is.. and also they are very well known to cherry pick and make major errors in translation.. Jaun Cole a Middle east scholar said: "MEMRI is aselective and biased against the arab press, and that it highlights pieces that cast arabs, espiecally commited muslims, in a negative light." i would love to discuss further things with who ever opposes me and i apologize for calling anyone in idiot in my last comment

MEMRI are probably not as impartial as they would like us all to think - the content they choose to translate tends to show Islam in a bad light (www.memritv.org). Interesting point of view from the Guardian can be seen at: www.guardian.co.uk/world/2002/aug/12/worlddispatch- .brianwhitaker. Doesn't mean the actual translation is inaccurate though.

I dont know if the message is being portrayed in the proper context in the subtitles. 'Insane attempt to justify abuse'? I dont think the video is about that, and he isnt promoting "wife beating" its saying it how it is for another culture, thats how there society works and bar the funny idea's they have certainly contains more respect and disapline, not everyone is the same. "Lebanese TV sucks!!!" you say, will most tv sucks, id rather watch this than xfactor. But why is this on boreme?

i speak Arabic . the translation is correct. i think the guy is an idiot, trying to compare a woman to a donkey etc. wife beating goes way further than a "light beating" in most cases. Islam forbids any beating, light or otherwise. as a Muslim, he should not be justifying abuse in any form.

Instead of spreading hate and creating a divide between us all, maybe its about time that people started to try and educate each other and bring a little understanding between faiths. Calling us idiots is an inflammatory remark and is likely to make matters worse...of course if that was your intention anyway...

Omar Taleb, I don't speak Arabic so I can't comment on the accuracy of the translation, but it was done by MEMRI, The Middle East Media Research Institute, founded in 1998 in Washington DC to bridge the language gap between the Middle East and the West by monitoring, translating, and studying Arab, Iranian and Turkish media, schoolbooks, and religious sermons.
