You're right, guest from england, individual wheel motors is nothing new; it's the petrol engine that's not linked to the wheels, and is only there to recharge the batteries on the move, that's a new idea - and a bloody good one at that - the sooner it's in production, the better!

Nothing new. A mate of mine works on giant quarry lorries. They all have individual motors for each wheel- and to stop them when going downhill, the driver just flick a switch, and the motors run backwards!!! Doesn't half scream, by all accounts!!!

My point is that this is a PR exercise - no one should give Volvo any kudos for this. If they want respect they should build the market and release a *plug-in* hybrid sooner. But they are too frightened of the oil companies who own lots of their suppliers.
