You should also do a remix on the attack on Pearl Harbour, the Battan forced march of 500 or so civilians, 1/3 if which survived the ordeal--(see http://www.redearth.webtol.com/bataan.html) or the sacking of Hong Hong http://tinyurl.com/l2gzu8 by the Japanese killing thousands of civilians--- or perhaps the slaughter by the Japanese of thousands of Pilipinos, the hundreds of thousands of American, British and Australian soldiers and the widespread horrors caused by the Japanese in WW2. Then visualize the possibly millions more Japanese and the hundreds of thousands of Allied troops which would have been killed in the invasion of Japan, which would have been necessary if the A bomb hadn’t happened. Then again cry over the bombing of 2 cities that saved the world from continuing WW2

One question: Did the Japanese attack civilians in Pearl Harbour? Were they the target? I have visited Hiroshima in the last month. I learned that the reason it was chosen is because it they thought it didn't contain any POW personnel. Is the life of a few hundred military personnel who signed up to kill or be killed is more valuable the the life of a hundreds of thousands? When the Americans adapt such logic, that attack on civilians is justifiable, then don't be shocked when crazies like Bin Laden do 9-11 attacks on you... Violence can only breed violence ... and terrorism can only breed terrorism.. if you don't want your civilians to be attacked and terrorized, then set a good example in the times of war when you deal with other nations.

"if you don't want your civilians to be attacked and terrorized, then set a good example" - you really think so? You tnk everyone will say "they didn't attack civilians, so we won't attack them?"

Guest: S3n (122 days ago)

I think you are missing the point here. Entirely.

To forgive is to advocate the crime. There is no valid call for forgiveness and no suitable recompense, other than a unilateral view that mans inhumanity to man will bind us to this earth until we are all consumed by it's inevitable and natural demise, when in reality earth is the seed from where we could populate the universe and beyond in excess of our wildest dreams. From then on the vast distances between us will cause our own disparate evolution until we eventually become all forms of aliens to ourselves. Unfortunately even then harmony is not our way ...

Yes, some tens of thousands died during the last two bomb attacks on Japan. And then the war was over. In spite of this laughable attempt to frame the nuclear bombings in the eyes of civilians, nurses, and children... The decision to use such awful weaponry was based on the millions of innocent people murdered, raped, robbed and enslaved by this country's leaders during their insane war. You reap what you sow. Unfortunately, their crimes were not repaid in kind.

stevepostevepo (24 days ago)

Tearful, a good perspective to get across the crime on innocents, it must never happen again.

Latest comment: "Lads, nothing to worry about. 6 Irish Knackers would kick the fcuk out of the entire American or Japanese Army and their skin is so thick, no radiation would get through it. All any country needs is a bunch of pikies in their army "

Guest (9 days ago)

lots of valid points for and against here. The US used the bomb to end the war that the japanese had already lost, and simply save the millions of casulties from an invasion (which would of meant sustained bombing and thousands of civilian fatalities). But imagine if the japanese had been in that position, would they have stopped at victory? or used it for domination? Personally, i (a person who thinks americas foreign policy is a bit...well...dim) think this is one of their best decisions

It was so long and boring that we decided to delete it.

Guest: Mike (17 days ago)

As horrible as the bombs were, they saved millions of lives on both sides, if the Allies had been forced to invade the mainland of Japan. That is the only way to understand it, if you cherish life.....this is what was learned fighting them on the islands of iwo jima and saipan.....and it worked, they surrendered less than a week after the second bomb, and the Russians never attack us after the war.....

Guest (55 days ago)

Odd how such terrible things happened for 3000 years by the Japanese and the world cared not. When the bombs helped end the war, however, people criticized. Because Asians like the Chinese and Koreans seem to be plentiful, their suffering of rape, murder, conquest, pillaging, personal loss, historical plundering, invasion, and mass forced prostitution as comfort women for the old Japanese army as sex and killing toys is politically more acceptable than Americans who can do no right.

Guest (55 days ago)

Understand that since this event, Japan was completely forgiven for their greater atrocities. How about forgiving the US?

elllmoElllmo (31 days ago)

Yeah...that would be a step in the right direction. If we all started to do stuff like that then maybe our race could actually move on.

Guest (20 days ago)

Maybe if the US stopped commiting atrocities people could consider forgiveness.

elllmoElllmo (20 days ago)

No, they probably wouldn't; lets face it you have just proved that.

Guest: Elmo (298 days ago)

This came from an ex-German SS soldier: 'If you want world peace, get ALL of the worlds leaders, industrialists, & religious leaders together. Get them to dig a deep foxhole each in a wood or copse like area, and subject them to a two hour artiliery bombardment. I guaruntee they will never want to go to war again.' Let's face it, we can't even agree to the correct day for the beginning of the new year. What hope do we have?

The USA where sick mother ******* then and still are

White like magnesium? That'll be uranium 235 dear... Like the worst chinese burn ever...hahahaha!

Guest: paul w (298 days ago)

To suggest Japanese crimes against humanity justify this one is garbage.

Guest: Allies United (Good Guys Won) (36 days ago)

More people would have died otherwise numbnuts, only more slowly, including our own Grandparents. Pacifism would have killed us all.

Guest: paul w (298 days ago)

There was massive arguments within the American administration on the morality of this. And within the army, etc. For good reason - it was slaughter on an unprecedented scale. As for ending the war, the Japanese had already given clear indication it wanted a halt...but the Allies wanted UNCONDITIONAL surrender. No government, no society... Some suggest this was asked so they would not surrender and the bombs could be dropped...to test the things and show the Soviets.

Guest: surrender_monkey (247 days ago)

the Nazis didn't view the holocaust as a crime. Same with the bomb attacks on civilian cities, Dresden, Hamburg, London, Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The perpetrators of those crimes will give reasons to justify their actions. So will the 'insurgent'. You cannot condemn terrorist attacks if you justify deliberate killing of civilian people.

Guest: paul w (298 days ago)

And to argue that THEY started it was justification is unbelievably childish. This is not a pre-teen school yard fight.

Guest: Allies United (Good Guys Won) (36 days ago)

So you'd have rathered that hundreds of thousands more innocent people were raped and slaughtered by the Japanese? Whereby, many more Japanese innocent civilians and military pawns die for their country's "honour"? Give me a break you stupid liberal pacifist nutter; we'd have been annihilated if it was left up to the likes of you. Idiot.

elllmoElllmo (31 days ago)

But the point is that pre-teeners in school yards DO fight. If you can't stop them, how you gonna stop nations? At the very least, we know for sure what these things can actually do-it's stopped them being used again so far. Sadly the only way they will become redundant is when they are replaced by something even worse.

As far as we are concerned, be it white, black, brown yellow of blue. US, African, Turkish or British or whatever. Mankind has been knocking the shit out of himself since he (or she/transgender in a poxy wheelchair for the pc among you) could walk. We will continue to do it until there is nothing and no-one left to kill. It's just about the only thing we are consistently good at. You want peace? Get rid of religion and lawyers. Oh, and that guy that hit my car yesterday. See what I mean?

Guest: Have You Seen my Cat? (24 days ago)

Oh, that was me that hit your car yesterday but I did it because you ran over my cat the day before and it didn't look like you were going to stop running over things, not quick enough for me anyhow.

Guest (298 days ago)

they all went to a better place

Guest: cherokee (191 days ago)

War at this point had claimed 400,000 americans, many many others. japanese were beaten but not interested in surrender. Anami + army men would never give up. Invasion with massive losses imminent, as evidenced by vicious fighting on the island-hopping campaign and recently concluded okinawa. Cruel? yes. Necessary? yes.

Guest (298 days ago)

I guess nagasaki never happened then. There is no bigger war crime in my book they saw what happened in Hiroshima but they still dropped another nuke

Guest: Ian Osenthrote (M.D.) (298 days ago)

I wish to state here, and now, that I categorically believe that the two surviving bank girls (less that 300 metres from the blast !!) both had nice tits!!

North Korea - now there's a thought .............. Oh and Pakistan too .. don't forget about them too..... Better watch out in the coming days / months / years...

Guest: Ray Deeyayshin (297 days ago)

Think what you will of the US - I'm glad the OTHER GUYS didnt win.....

Guest: paul w (298 days ago)

As always, view the first comment as publicity and the second as the real meaning. The first is nonsense, the same rationale as the fire bombing of London and Dresden…and Baghdad. The people simply refuse to give in. The second is the real reason; the USSR.

Guest (265 days ago)

100% correct. The bombs were dropped to scare the Soviets. USSR was on its way to run through Japan.

Guest: David (298 days ago)

There were 75 million Japanese prepared to fight to the death to protect the homeland. The Allies estimated the invasion would cause 5 million Allied casualties and ten times as many Japanese dead and wounded. The civilian government of Japan was making peace overtures, but the military, the real power, wanted to fight on to the death. How many lives were saved by forcing Japan to capitulate? Far more than died at Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Guest (298 days ago)

Well said. Why do so many others go for the emotional view based on one clip like this without seeing the bigger picture as it was at the time, to die in war is not nice end of.

Guest: paul w (298 days ago)

It was done to 1. (1) obtaining the greatest psychological effect against Japan and (2) making the initial use sufficiently spectacular for the importance of the weapon to be internationally recognized when publicity on it is released.

Guest (275 days ago)

Well at least the Americans won the war for the rest of poor old Europe.....BO||OCKS. Our Dear Leader Kim I am a stunted self loveing retard will soon be dropping some more. Cant wait, start with texas.

Guest: Ula (190 days ago)

Yeah , Americans won the war in Europe , the Russans had nothing to do with the war in Europe at all. And 80 % of the German army getting killed on the Eastern front in the 4 years previously was an accident . MORON

Guest: Simon (298 days ago)

"To date the only attack with nuclear weapons in the history of warfare" Except for Nagasaki 3 days later. The US Soldier who released the first bomb had no regrets until his dying day a few years ago. Why does the US have a problem with others having Nuclear weapons when to date, they are the only ones who have ever used them... and twice. Call for global nuclear disarmament in the name of those it turned into mere shadows.

Guest: Alex (297 days ago)

oh great..."guys, put down your nuclear weapons!" Because that's realistic... The CND is all very well and good, but living in a dreamworld.
