Yes, some tens of thousands died during the last two bomb attacks on Japan. And then the war was over. In spite of this laughable attempt to frame the nuclear bombings in the eyes of civilians, nurses, and children... The decision to use such awful weaponry was based on the millions of innocent people murdered, raped, robbed and enslaved by this country's leaders during their insane war. You reap what you sow. Unfortunately, their crimes were not repaid in kind.

War at this point had claimed 400,000 americans, many many others. japanese were beaten but not interested in surrender. Anami + army men would never give up. Invasion with massive losses imminent, as evidenced by vicious fighting on the island-hopping campaign and recently concluded okinawa. Cruel? yes. Necessary? yes.

You should also do a remix on the attack on Pearl Harbour, the Battan forced march of 500 or so civilians, 1/3 if which survived the ordeal--(see http://www.redearth.webtol.com/bataan.html) or the sacking of Hong Hong http://tinyurl.com/l2gzu8 by the Japanese killing thousands of civilians--- or perhaps the slaughter by the Japanese of thousands of Pilipinos, the hundreds of thousands of American, British and Australian soldiers and the widespread horrors caused by the Japanese in WW2. Then visualize the possibly millions more Japanese and the hundreds of thousands of Allied troops which would have been killed in the invasion of Japan, which would have been necessary if the A bomb hadn’t happened. Then again cry over the bombing of 2 cities that saved the world from continuing WW2

One question: Did the Japanese attack civilians in Pearl Harbour? Were they the target? I have visited Hiroshima in the last month. I learned that the reason it was chosen is because it they thought it didn't contain any POW personnel. Is the life of a few hundred military personnel who signed up to kill or be killed is more valuable the the life of a hundreds of thousands? When the Americans adapt such logic, that attack on civilians is justifiable, then don't be shocked when crazies like Bin Laden do 9-11 attacks on you... Violence can only breed violence ... and terrorism can only breed terrorism.. if you don't want your civilians to be attacked and terrorized, then set a good example in the times of war when you deal with other nations.

your fuking kidding me! i just wrote the longest shit of my entire life and it turned out so good and its not here? wtf!!! well all i can say is Humans Wise Up!!!

Guest: surrender_monkey (135 days ago)

the Nazis didn't view the holocaust as a crime. Same with the bomb attacks on civilian cities, Dresden, Hamburg, London, Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The perpetrators of those crimes will give reasons to justify their actions. So will the 'insurgent'. You cannot condemn terrorist attacks if you justify deliberate killing of civilian people.

We're all as murderous as each other, we're humans. You can debate this shit all you like but it's happened and will happen again.

pearl harbour was horrible and also the reason america declared war on japan in retaliation but the fact remains there were many warships, soldiers etc at that port....not just a bunch of defenceless people who took no part in the war. to relate it to the present day, would anyone think it was o.k to drop a bomb like that on any country and kill thousands upon thousands of people just going about their everyday lives. also it's not like the u.s or any other country at war has'nt used a suprise attack. i suppose the most sickening thing is that the people of hiroshima posed absolutely no threat to anyone.

Guest (153 days ago)

Hey. Where's the first one? You know. The sneak attack on Pearl Harbor reconstruction, showing just-as-innocent sailors sleeping, waking up, and drowning? And I do mean "equally-innocent."

Sorry guest. There is a clear difference between trained and well-armed soldiers on a military base and civilians. The attack on Pearl Harbour, while horrible for the servicemen and their families, was a strategic military target. The attacks on Japan were on civilians.

iid1e4IID1E4 (153 days ago)

i cannot accept it was justified to kill innocent people who were just going about their everyday lives. i've seem similar things present day where someone decides blowing up innocent people is ok....but these days it's called terrorism.

Yeah , Americans won the war in Europe , the Russans had nothing to do with the war in Europe at all. And 80 % of the German army getting killed on the Eastern front in the 4 years previously was an accident . MORON

Guest: Do your research! (174 days ago)

Japan "got the message" and it was prudent to drop two bombs so that the Japan didn't think that America only had one of these bombs (infact they only had two!) If America had simply wanted to cause the biggest loss of life possible then they would've dropped the bombs elsewhere, like Tokyo, Osaka or Yokohoma which would've cause about 3-4 times the loss of life.

unclesamUncleSam (182 days ago)

Absolutely justified and necessary. By doing this, Truman saved hundreds of thousands of Allied (and Japanese) lives. You're welcome.

Guest: Dave (175 days ago)

I agree.

Guest: Zastrozzi (151 days ago)

Speaking as a Brit: Damn right. And the Allies never subjected their POWs to medical experiments, while we're on the subject.

Guest (140 days ago)

you're a moron. Both of you are.

glortmanglortman (67 days ago)

Actually, the US subjected its own citizens to medical experiments, and happily let them die. Consider the Tuskegee Syphillis Study where the US government allowed uneducated men to die from syphillis by telling them they were being treated for "bad blood" but watching them die so they could follow the progression of the disease and collecting the autopsy data. Or check out David/Brenda Reimer from Canada whose penis was burned off during a botched circumcision. The doctor convinced David's parents to give him a sex change while silently convinced that he would prove that nurture determines sexuality and not nurture. Very civilized indeed.

glortmanglortman (67 days ago)

sorry, that should read "nurture determines sexuality and not nature"...

Japan surrendered because of the declaration of war by the USSR, not because of the Atomic bombs. 140.000 lives, people... Not jusitfyable in these days... neither in those. The balance of civilians killed in this war is in the blood stained hands of the allies. Yes, we had to win. But you can say also now, sorry and this should not happen any day again

As far as we are concerned, be it white, black, brown yellow of blue. US, African, Turkish or British or whatever. Mankind has been knocking the shit out of himself since he (or she/transgender in a poxy wheelchair for the pc among you) could walk. We will continue to do it until there is nothing and no-one left to kill. It's just about the only thing we are consistently good at. You want peace? Get rid of religion and lawyers. Oh, and that guy that hit my car yesterday. See what I mean?

Guest: Ray Deeyayshin (184 days ago)

Think what you will of the US - I'm glad the OTHER GUYS didnt win.....

ajhawkinsjrajhawkinsjr (185 days ago)

Don't think we are special we just have better resources, and more modern equipment.

White westerners are the greatest murderers of humanity, look at the first world war, the second world war, killing of 95% of the American Indian population ..................................................- ..........................................the list is endless

aelred57aelred57 (185 days ago)

Let's check recent history. Darfor, Eritrea, the Hutu's and Tutsi's, all Africa. And lets not forget the peaceful, serene, Muslim religion killing a few hundred of each other every day. Yep, you're right, nothing like white westerners to do some killing.

Guest: Trevor Smith (183 days ago)

aelred57 even in recent history Americans with the help of us Brits have bombed killed hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi's and Afgans. before that the koreans, Cambodia and remember Vietnam ................................etc...............- .......

aelred57aelred57 (180 days ago)

What makes you say they're innocent? If someone in your neighborhood was killing the people who came to help you rid yourself of an oppressive government, which is what you supposedly wanted, wouldn't you speak up to stop it? If you just sit back and passively agree to be a human shield for the bad guys, maybe it's your fault that you get killed in tghe return fire. If the people living in the original colonies had done what everyone in the world does now, sit around and whine about their opressive government and wait for someone else to save them, whe would still be subjects of the British Crown.

Guest: Sorcerer (184 days ago)

Vlad the impaler, Idi Amin, Stalin, Herod, The Turks in WW1, 20-30 Iraqis shote dead each day in Bhagdad alone, Tianamen Square, Rwanda...white westerners, huh? We're all as bad as one another. Just look at the arguments we're having here. Why not just think 'Ok, lets try and get on? Agree to disagree? Make sure this won't happen again?' What's up, too many 'great satans' to deal with, eh?

Guest: Elmo (185 days ago)

This came from an ex-German SS soldier: 'If you want world peace, get ALL of the worlds leaders, industrialists, & religious leaders together. Get them to dig a deep foxhole each in a wood or copse like area, and subject them to a two hour artiliery bombardment. I guaruntee they will never want to go to war again.' Let's face it, we can't even agree to the correct day for the beginning of the new year. What hope do we have?

"To date the only attack with nuclear weapons in the history of warfare" Except for Nagasaki 3 days later. The US Soldier who released the first bomb had no regrets until his dying day a few years ago. Why does the US have a problem with others having Nuclear weapons when to date, they are the only ones who have ever used them... and twice. Call for global nuclear disarmament in the name of those it turned into mere shadows.

Guest: Alex (184 days ago)

oh great..."guys, put down your nuclear weapons!" Because that's realistic... The CND is all very well and good, but living in a dreamworld.

Guest: paul w (185 days ago)

Please understand this is not an anti-American view; by the end of the war, ALL sides had committed acts of atrocity. At the beginning, both the US and British had condemned the killing of innocent men, women and children. Wars tend the escalate.

ladyluck9Ladyluck9 (67 days ago)

Paul W... You really have a small penis, don't you?

Guest: paul w (185 days ago)

As always, view the first comment as publicity and the second as the real meaning. The first is nonsense, the same rationale as the fire bombing of London and Dresden…and Baghdad. The people simply refuse to give in. The second is the real reason; the USSR.

Guest (152 days ago)

100% correct. The bombs were dropped to scare the Soviets. USSR was on its way to run through Japan.

Guest: paul w (185 days ago)

It was done to 1. (1) obtaining the greatest psychological effect against Japan and (2) making the initial use sufficiently spectacular for the importance of the weapon to be internationally recognized when publicity on it is released.

Guest: paul w (185 days ago)

"I was against dropping the bomb as Japan was already defeated, and dropping the bomb was totally unnecessary…" Pres D Eisenhower “It was my opinion that the use of the barbarous weapon…was of no material use of the war against Japan…the Japanese were already defeated and ready to surrender…wars cannot be won destroying women and children…” Admiral W Lahey, Chief of Staff

ajhawkinsjrajhawkinsjr (185 days ago)

That would have been 75 million civilians, with pitchforks and sickles, against the entire US military. The Japanese had no war fighting capacity left. We firebombed every base and factory to the point they couldn't field mechanized farm equipment against us. The Navy was at the bottom of the Pacific, the Airforce couldn't stop the Enola Gay or the Bocks Car from delivering their payloads, or even shoot them down after their bomb runs. We could have left them alone for a year to starve to death. And yes the leadership would have wanted to fight on, so what, they couldn't. The Germans had a million fighting men and thousands of pieces of equipment of all sizes but we beat them without this terror, and they weren't even an island nation isolated from every resource they needed by a thousand miles of ocean.

aelred57aelred57 (185 days ago)

Japan still had plenty of fight left. Most weapon production was done in home workshops, only final assembly was done in factories. And your better solution, more humane would be to blockade and let millions of Japanese starve?

ajhawkinsjrajhawkinsjr (184 days ago)

Our response had nothing to do with the humanity of our enemy, we ended a war with a suicidal regime the fastest way we could. Civilians would have been forced to kill themselves rather than come to any sort of accord with the West. It was two empires at war. That leads down a very bloody road. Leadership had to break, we hurt them in their souls to make them stop, so 75 million people didn't have to die. That deterrent has worked for the last 65 years, but we might have to show that force again in my lifetime, and I don't want to see it happen So we should be reminded, forced to remember those shadows on the pavement.
