Only 2 prototypes were ever built. High costs and changing technology halted the programme in 1961 but the 2 prototypes performed supersonic testing until 1969. (although 1 crashed in 1966) and the other is now on display at the National Museum of the United States Air Force in Ohio.

Brains? Your brains are in your arse.

Anyone else think it looks a little like Firefox ?

Unfortunately it was built 50 years before smart bombs so at high altitude it could never hit a target. Hence probably the first time you have seen one.

Not at all; 30 secs on wikipedia would show you it's real.

I'm with Brains on this one, I think you guys are the ones with brains in your arse.

There's no way this video is real. Nobody played guitar in that style during the 50s. (:

That's Joe Satriani playing. He was about 13 when this plane was retired =)

Latest comment: "I'm sure the music was added so it wouldn't be silent "

I saw this on Mythbusters last week it's a fake, the film was produced by the yanks to try to show the Russians that they were building supersonic bombers, the film was produced by Gerry and Silvia Anderson, and if you look real close you will noticed that it's Virgil Tracey in the cockpit. Stupid Americans.

FAKE....look very closely, you can see strings

Well, with nukes you don't need to "hit" the target. Close is usually good enough.

it's all academic, by this point in time M.3 Bombers were a waste of money Land(and later Submarine) Based ICBM's were far more cost effective, the programme was too ambitious if the target had been M.2-2.4, high altitude (70-80,000ft) with 30,000lb+ payload and 2,500 mile range+ capable of using conventional and nuclear cruise missiles with a dedicated fleet of tanker aircraft based all over the world it would have been a worthwhile project.

Brains is an idiot. This was a "proof of concept" program in the 1960's. There were two of these planes built. One crashed in the western US during flight test when an escort plant collided with it. The remaining XB-70 is at the USAF museum in Dayton, OH. I was there last month, and touched the plane with my own hands. Fake? Hardly.
