Ping pong has its origins in England as an after-dinner amusement for upper-class Victorians in the 1880s. Mimicking the game of tennis in an indoor environment, everyday objects were originally enlisted to act as the equipment. A line of books would be the net, a rounded top of a Champagne cork or knot of string as the ball, and a cigar box lid as the racket

I hid behind a cushion with embarrassment. They tell me he's a good administrator; well, if that's the case, he should stay in the background and leave the public appearances to Lord Coe and Roger Black.

Latest comment: We're getting charged for conjecture? Is there likely to be a charge for supposition and presumption too? Boris is a genius, can you imagine any other mayor being so entertaining? I want Ricky Gervais or Russell Brand to follow in his footsteps!

Boris is the sort of person who's great to listen to, but you wouldn't want him in a position of power. it's not boris who's made us a laughing stock, its the mass of complete idiot southerners who voted for him. Nice one guys, you've lost us the right to mock those who voted for Dubya...
