He didn't have to hang on. He is attached to the kite by a body harness. The bar is the control lines for the kite. This is the same rig as wind surfing.

WTF is wrong with that guy shrieking like a girl? Not the snow kiter, the clown with the video camera. IN my entire life, I have never even thought about making such an ignorant noise. I've been shot, flown in aerobatic planes, and done other exciting or dangerous things. Making shrieking noises would never have improved any of those.
