much as i don't condone the use of violence in this way, it is good that such a strong response came from the public. It is too easily forgotten that the police are servants to society, not masters of it. Ultimately society needs to show its strength over what can become an overly authoritarian police force and government. We could do with some of that attitude here....

They have their sheilds upside down when they carry it on their right arm. When it is on their left arm (more common) it is the right way up.

The demonstrations are good. the problem in Greece is that they get out of hand and too often get violoent. Focus is taken away from the real issues and placed on the violence instead (it is known that undercover cops are responsible for starting some of the window smashing and looting - thus turning puplic opinion against the demonstrators). The Greeks are good at making noise but there needs to be a way forward also, all too often the politicians just keep quiet and wait it out and nothing happens - and people seem to accept it! Also, violence like this is not democratic, it is disgusting that people use a child's tragic death as an excuse for them to push their own antidemocratic 'leftwing' agenda.

Alexandros Grigoropoulos is the name of the boy. Apparently, he was throwing a petrol bomb as part of an action against the police when he was shot at. At least some sources, (probably on the police side) say he was hit by a ricochet. Hard to know exactly what the real story is in any of these situations, but the bottom line is that violence begets violence. The boy throws the bomb, the police shoot the boy, the people kill each other... It makes you think Gandhi was right.

Power belongs to the people!!

this is just stupid, the police make a mistake by killing a kid and now everybody thinks that burning everthing down and getting more people killed is going to help. WTF. STUPID HUMANS
