Red ensign can be shown by vessels built or registered in Britain. There are other prerequisits but this will probably be why she can fly the red ensign.
Same goes for Roman Abrabovich yacht, Pelorus which I saw in Malta a few years back.

Its not British its the Cayman Island flag. Cayman registered vessel benefits from the tax free status and confidentiality laws of the Cayman Islands. Tax Free mega yacht and tax free salaries for staff, its alright for some!
