I'm always on the look out for fresh air-kill littering the fields around an airport. One day I might be lucky.

I think 24 and 25 are ostrich strikes!!!! Walterego: Not sure if it's the case in America but I know here in the UK Roll Royce have a chicken farm and they throw chickens into engines to make sure they can stand bird strike. Thats probably why you don't hear about many crashes.

Rolls Royce actually blow off some of the blades to simulate a bird strike. Also the reason there arn't many bird strikes are because not many birds fly at 35,000ft.

I'm surprised birdstrikes don't happen more often. You rarely hear of birds bringing down airliners, notwithstanding the Hudson River accident.

That's because if you were a bird, you too would avoid these giant screeching metal monsters that invade your territory. And fortunately the really big mothers (airliners) tend to use the same routes. I'm no expert but that's my theory and I'm sticking to it!

You might be right. It must've hopped at the wrong moment while swallowing gravel from the runway, the poor little darling.
