I cannot believe that there is even any need to debate this further. The best undisputed best healthcare services in the world - France, Germany, UK, Sweden, Norway, Australia - they all have government healthcare paid through taxes - and they are ALL better than the stupid, only for profit American system. If the US cannot see the benefit, then we need to return to using the much overused phrase "Dumb Americans''.

Eh? The NHS sucks, I mean I'm happy it's free as I've used it loads. But the quality is low for the amount of money spent on it. I'm not compairing it to the quality of hospitals found in non G8 countries. But it is very inefficient. I come from Stafford. Stafford General Hospital has been shamed in the papers for somehow killing hundreds of extra people than should die from normal stats. On the NHS review website of hospitals it is given the lowest possible rating.

FREE? Nothing is free. SOMEONE is paying for it. Probably someone who makes a little more money than you, probably someone that makes a lot more money than you too. Probably anyone that WORKS for a living. And it may be "free" but you have no choice. yeah. That's great. No thanks.

Uhm, Mr Weiner, name ONE THING the government does well..... You cite MediCare and Social Security. Pardon me, but those are not really good examples to boost your argument. Why don't you try to fix what's already there and already broken, before you mess with MY health insurance.

That's not what he said at all. He was saying that you're already paying for those things and getting ripped off for health insurance as well. If you stopped paying health insurance and paid a bit more to the state for a health service, you'd all be better off.

Part 1. My experiences with Government provided "healthcare", both on Active Duty. Crushed a finger at work one weekend. Coworker drove me to the base hospital. Where we sat. For an hour. Just the two of us. The military doc finally gave me a cursory exam, and sent me to the civilian(PRIVATE) hospital in town. They fixed me up fine.

Part2. After 9/11, I got a hernia @ work. The base had a clinic staffed by Public Health Service personel. The doc told me to "do more situps". I could barely walk across the room. I went to a civilian (PRIVATE) doc, that I PAID for, he operated on me, and "patched" me up fine. Sorry, but government has NO BUSINESS in the BUSINESS of my healthcare.

"He was saying .... you'd all be better off." The government is WORSE. We're INVOLUNTARILY paying for SS and MediCare, and are being ripped off far worse by the gov't than by the insurance companies. And I fundamentally disagree that we are better off with more money and power being diverted from the private sector to a bureaucracy. If we had less of our money confiscated by the state, maybe more people who wanted it could afford health insurance......

The care you received on a military base reflects the fact that at the moment, state provided healthcare is nothing short of half arsed. If half your insurance dollars were pumped into making a public health service I suspect it would be the best in the world once established. But hey, if you want to keep paying $4,000 odd a year into a service you might not even use, that's up to you.

Exactly. It is a CHOICE. I guess I'd rather be a stupid American with the ability to make my own choices than an oh-so-smugly-smart non-American who is compelled to hang on the Old Nannie's teat. BTW, did you see the latest BBC story alleging that prison inmates eat better than NHS patients? Google it.

your logic is completely scrambled. Every anecdote you've put forward in no way reflects upon the criticisms you've associated with them.

huh? My assertion is that Government healthcare sucks. period. My experience with government provided health care perfectly illustrates my point. Your "assertion" does nothing to forward your argument. "MY" logic is scrambled?!?!?!?!?!? Bwahahahahahahahahaha! That's funny.

Many Americans are Christians, i have read their bible in the beginning gods asks Cain where his brother is, cain responds basically "how should i know am i my brothers keeper?" i think that's the most important question in the bible and for all Christians. I for one would like to see Christians act like Christians for once.

You apparently assume that the Bible is uniquely American, which of course, it isn't. By your logic also then, any nation that "keeps his brother" is therefore Christian? Your "logic" is faulty. So is government involvement in my health care.

I'd prefer it if people read more than one book and saw their holy books for what they really are: man made.
