While I agree with the neg comment re the Pope, I have to ask: What was wrong with Mother Theresa? Where does she fit into all of this?!?!?! I just assumed it was dirty old priests and bishops having a go at the kids. What did Mother Theresa do?

It's an urban myth that she was a "saint". The rich world has a poor conscience, and many people liked to alleviate their own unease by sending money to a woman who seemed like an activist for "the poorest of the poor." People do not like to admit that they have been gulled or conned. Many volunteers who went to Calcutta came back abruptly disillusioned by the stern ideology and poverty-loving practice of the "Missionaries of Charity," but they had no audience for their story.

I witnessed the elevation and consecration of extreme dogmatism, blinkered faith, and the cult of a mediocre human personality. Many more people are poor and sick because of the life of Mother Teresa: Even more will be poor and sick if her example is followed. She was a fanatic, a fundamentalist, and a fraud.

In a nutshell, she received hundreds of millions in donations, however, she was a staunch believer in "suffering" as a means of finding Jesus: after all he suffered didn't he?

And so she needlessly kept many poor in hideous conditions because she thought that they'd be rewarded for it "after life" The only person who was rewarded was her, the west continued to send her money despite the fact that she had no intention of improving the lives of the most needy. There were even instances of her denying family visits as a rule if the wretched wished to stay in her "care".

Like any good catholic she was obsessed with suffering to the point that she got a kick out of it. Sorry my reply was so long, however, destroying sacred cows (pun intended) of this magnitude takes a lot of argument. She was not a saint, not even a good charity worker.

There is a fine line between repression and perversion; i.e., celibacy isn't natural. A religion run by 60+ year old virgins in frocks. Who'd have thunk it would result in child rape?
