Go Hitch! If your life's work on this planet was to successfully set things in motion to kill god, then you have performed more of a service for humankind than ANY person before you. (including so-called messiahs).

Latest comment: It's his right to deny religion especially Abrahamic religions. Something every should do because it's destructive, causes war, fear, ignorance and emotion outbursts when taken seriously and financially exploitation. At least he is not a slave to someone else opinion. Worst especially someone he never met. We dunno who was Jesus, did you ever slept with him, shook his hand or met him?. Jesus was just a normal human being. Bible was written by a group of normal human beings. God is based on a normal human being imagination just like Santa Claus, Zeus, leprechauns etc. Is based on someone idea not prophets or angels. Satan also was the idea of someone. Example like Na'vi from avatar was based on James Cameron's imagination and ideas. Goes same for god, angels and other mythical beings. I like stories too but I never take em seriously. Bible and other things in religion trying to control people over fear and lies are based on the inventor the religion's opinion and ideas. NORMAL human beings. I'm not an extreme Atheist but I have a personal faith / belief. I do not worship something invented by someone else. Freedom is the most important thing in history as long is not abused.

It's not anti-atheist to perhaps believe in prayer. Some studies have shown that such directed thoughts might actually have an effect on such things. And wasn't there some particle physicists that discovered some matter that did seem to respond to directed thoughts? It wouldn't surprise me if we found decades down the road that there is some methodology for our thoughts to create our reality.

At least one study I've read about has shown that patients who have known that people are praying for them have fared less well than a group that thought no one was praying for them. Any effects either way are of a placebic nature. Praying without deities is known as wishing.

It's just life. He's still in a proper enough state of mind to say that there is no way that he will rationally accept religion. For his battle with cancer, he is approaching it as a rational, natural person with no supernatural hopes or expectations. In his state, people take religion in desperation for extra-scientific hope.

He is approaching it with nobility and courage, but with no mirages of salvation or damnation.
