Brave council switches off traffic lights at a busy junction. The results were quite unexpected.

Shows that we can all get along just fine without too many rules

Maybe they should now make rules for the motorways; move out of the overtaking lane(s) if NOT ovetaking! Introduce fines for people hogging the overtaking lanes! In mainland Europe, this works fine but in the UK - you will always get people hogging the overtaking lanes and causing backlogs.

If a road junction, or series of junctions works then it's fantastic, and pedestrian consideration is also important! Never mind this 'freedom to express it' Boll**ks FOLLOW THE RULES OF THE ROAD!!! and every one is safe (ish) 2 words....HIGHWAY CODE!... some more words....TAXED VEHICLES are required to adere! ? Why are UN TAXED USERS alowed to ignore?????

No Lights, Gromit!

What a shock! People being asked to use common sense - and doing so because no one is thinking for them. Let's have more of this sort of thing.

problem you have is by drivers at certain times of the day(night) driving too fast when someone pulls out, major crash!! i'm all for it though, some lights i go through run far better when they go wrong!! ciao

Silly Limeys! In America, we just go when it's sensible to do so and always give right of way to pedestrians. Also, we're allowed to turn right on any stop sign (british left) and don't have to wait. No wonder you lot need a nanny state! What are you doing driving when your town is that small anyway? Jeez! Good job that one limey is blind! He'd get a right shock if he saw those classic british teeth!

there's a reason it's called a 'stop' sign, to make you STOP! But you are American and can't actually understand the English language, so maybe we shouldn't be so hard on you......or not!

Yes we have bad teeth, but you're all fat c*nts

Get it right- fat *stupid* c*nts. And what is a 'British left'? How does it differ from the one you use (apart from speaking properly)?

Latest comment: "In America, we just go when it's sensible to do so and always give right of way to pedestrians" America has a ridiculous amount of traffic lights! Every 'block' announces itself with yet another dangling tricolour of misery. Driving through any built-up area is an absolute nightmare. What's more, Americans have a habit of driving easily walkable distances. When I told the concierge in our hotel that we had walked the mile to our restaurant, and back, he was astonished, replying with "but you could've driven it in 5 minutes!". This laziness adds significant 'weight', if you'll excuse the pun, to the progressive obesity problem you have over there. I'm not wishing to start a transatlantic traffic-light feud, but before enjoying the view from your high horse, try to base your comments in at least some semblance of reality.

Silly Limeys. In America we'd just go when it is sensible to do so. Also, we're allowed to turn right on red at all stop signs; your british left. No wonder you need a nanny state government over there!
