John Stewart destroys Bill Kristol over government run health care

American conservative political analyst Bill Kristol slips up when he admits that the US military has the best health care (run by the government) and suggests that the American public don't deserve the same standards. From an interview with Jon Stewart on The Daily Show (2009).

The "poor" can't afford to buy health insurance, but they can afford beer and cigarettes.

Latest comment: That's because beer and cigarettes are under $10 each time, whereas healthcare costs roughly 10 times that per month. Also, nicotine and alcohol are addictive substances. One day the poor will rise up and realize what they can have - after all they are the majority and this is a democracy. People like you who will deny healthcare to fellow human beings, will hurry the process along.

My cousin has had exceptionally good healthcare, since he retired from the US Air force. You must admit though, something is better than nothing; I believe the poor can't afford any kind of healthcare in the US. From a UK citizen, our NHS is not great, but at least I don't have to worry about seeing a Doctor if something is wrong.

I'm also a Brit. Sure the British NHS isn't perfect but, in my experience (direct personal experience), it is usually fine and sometimes brilliant. But - get this - it costs Britain 7% of GDP. And the US system costs 14% - about the same as the really great systems in Germany and France. So can you imagine what the British system would be like if Brits decided to pay 10%, let alone 14% of GDP? Socialised medicine - why doesn't everybody do it?

I'm Canadian (Ontario). My health care is awesome, we might bitch and complain that we have morons sitting in emerg for hours because they have a cold, but we don't have to pay a dime more for a life threatening major surgery or cancer treatment. The security in knowing that I'm taken care of, is exponentially better than a private system. Americans pay more for less and they are happiest with that; truly STUPID AMERICANS.

Hahahahahaha. US military has the best heath care. Hahahahahahahahaha! 30 year USAF retiree here. During that time, I was told by a mildoc to do situps for a hernia, sent to a civie hosp for a broken finger, and told I NEEDED a MINIMUM of 3, no 2, no 1 Anthrax shots to be deployed. Combat casualties may get the best care, but the day-to-day "health care" is a joke. Kristol was right.
