I was pretty sure I saw something attached to the front of the tractor to keep it from going over backwards when it reared up. My grandson was badly injured and nearly killed when his tractor flipped over on him. he was trying to pull out a stump with the chain too high up on the back of the tractor. This is one of the most ingenious things I have ever seen with farm equipment in my 73 yrs

You're right, there was a cable attached to the front of the tractor. As mentioned, this is an OLD method, used many times. But, very dangerous unless the front of the tractor is also being pulled to insure it doesn't go over backwards!!!

Yes but if you look at the cable on the front, there is a lot of slack. When the tractor rears up, the cable isn't doing anything...

Latest comment:

The bad thing about a come-along, when dealing with this much weight and force, it requires you to put yourself in the danger zone. At lease most winches allow you to operate from a distance, or in the vehicle cab, getting out of the danger zone. But a come-along requires you to be right there in the danger zone, cranking on a handle. No thank you.

Regarding tipovers: All tractors should have an ample ROPS cage and a SEAT BELT so you stay IN the cage. All farmers either weld or can get someone who does, so there is no excuse for not having ROPS.

I am Norse and was killed once in a former life trying out this mud stunt. But it was quicker and cleaner than another time I got killed doing that Viking thing and got burned to death by boiling oil at that Scot castle. I tell you, Norse just don't stay dead even if we are dumber than stumps and slower than molassas.

This is an OLD technique! In the 1800's, on Steamboats, it was called the 'grasshopper'. As several comments have noted, it can be dangerous. If you are self-extacting, don't be alone, don't over-power (backflip), say thanks to the creator when it works.
