Judge Jim Gray, a judicial indictment of the war on drugs

Judge Jim Gray, a judicial indictment of the war on drugs

Presiding judge in conservative Orange County, California makes sense of failed anti-drug policies with some very powerful observations, particularly on the groups of people who benefit from drug prohibition. It seems whichever way you measure it, the costs of drug prohibition far exceeds any benefits.

Very articulate and to the point. Unfortunately he will never win the hearts and minds of the red neck Christian's living out in Fresno and Bakersfiled Ca. who shot down the pro-marijuana last summer. All he has to say is that "god said it was ok to consume drugs", in the same sentence as he can prove Obama is from Kenyan.

Beautifully rationalised and articulate argument. But as others have pointed out, those in charge are so scared of the backlash they would have to endure from the woefully ignorant people who make the most noise, that the likelihood of this ever being changed is somewhere between "nil" and "not likely". Such a shame as he's soooooo right!

Judge Jim Gray is in an eternal popularity contest. He has some interesting ideas yet is ignorant to the human condition. He has never experienced the pressures the common man experiences. American's need education and yes the government needs to stay out of a persons personal choices, but to assume that the legalization and availability of any altering substance will make it less taboo is complete ignorance of human biology and nature. Learn/teach to nurture Mr. Gray and the desire for altering perception may diminish.

Latest comment: Yes!!! Marijuna is legal where we live and my brother spends all day stoned and unmotivated. My family is carrying his responsibilities and is angry at his lack of control with this and other substances. We have to spend money to help him and clean him up.

Informed, lucid, and convincing. Tragically though, this kind of logical thought has no place in the USA where the morons would rather listen to Sarah Palin and Bill O Reilly than engage what little brain they have. Can you imagine Bill and Sarah's ignorant rantings if asked to comment... All too easy isn't it...!

Thank heavens this man is talking sense about, and to, the American people on such a sensitive subject. Now, all they have to do is pull their heads out of their collective backside and listen to him. Good luck with that, Jim.

Aah, the two ends of the American intellectual spectrum: Jim Gray and you. I'd also better spell it out so even you can understand it: Jim is at the smart end.
