Timbs Special streamlined custom car from 1948

Engineer Norman Timbs' custom car loosely based on the Auto Union record streamliner cars of the late 1930s. Powered by a Buick Straight 8, probably because it was the most powerful engine easily available to the public. Video on page 6 of the Timbs Special at a custom car show.

I had a '41 Buick with a straight eight, smooth with plenty of torque but I wouldn't describe it as powerful. I wonder what kind of suspension this thing has, looks like you'd lose your undercarriage going over a pack of cigarettes much less a pre-interstate highway.

yum! that's a sexy car. What I don't understand is why the car makers turn out these gorgeous concept cars, then bury them and sell ghastly boxes. "Try this bite of yummy tiramisu! Sorry, but to continue, you just get Twinkies."
