Neil deGrasse Tyson: Maybe we're not as smart as we think we are

Humans and chimpanzees share 99% identical DNA. That makes us drooling blithering idiots.

Somewhat pointless speculation. The effect of DNA is not proportional to its size ... think of the effect of a 1% change to your computer software. It's non-linear. This is not to say nothing can be any smarter than we are, but it is to say that until we find so much as a singe extra-terrestrial microbe, any discussion of how wonderful alien intelligence might be (and how terribly terribly bad we are) is pissing in the wind.

I love this quote, it really puts things in perspective and rationalizes why we haven't been contacted (formally at least), but Alien life forms... we're just ants to them.

Latest comment: Ants to them? havent been contacted formally? This doesnt rationalize anything. 1 percent is a big increase, indeed but our minds are like top end computers from 2020 you cant just keep fitting infinite knowledge into one place. Someday space and resource constraints will stop human genetic advancement (to a degree) and then it will be even more of a matter of fine tuning than it is now.
