Rocket-propelled Hercules transport plane

Rocket-propelled Hercules transport plane

Three Lockheed Hercules aircraft were modified for Operation Credible Sport, a top-secret rescue mission to free hostages in the Iranian hostage crisis of 1980. It reads like a movie plot, except for the ending.

I'd so watch a show called, "Pimp My War Machine". Be a hoot to watch the pilots faces as their plane are revealed with tweaked engines, chrome and red leather seating.

Actually there is such a system it's called "weight on wheels". On such a mission the pilot needs to be in total control, remember they are landing and taking off from a stadium. Although it would look to me like pilot error. More like stupid pilot.

Hey I think there's something called a Helicopter that can fly and out in a short time... This is probably also why the Albatross VTOL transport took off, despite it's shortcomings.

ok, where's the helicopter that can take 52 passengers? well, you could use several helis, but for rescueing hostages, you can't really queue up landings in enemy territory

Ahh... So some sort of simple fail safe device that disables the firing until the wheels are under load would be in order then. Maybe a week's work? Shame the Americans were in charge. No ingenuity you see... Stupid Americans!!!
