Climbing without a rope

Climbing without a rope

(4:28) Goofy Alex Honnold transforms into a fearless animal once he's on the wall. I'm getting vertigo just watching this from my armchair.

I can't comprehend how a person could risk his life so dangerously for something so foolish. These people must have some kind of mental defect which allows them to take such risks for no useful purpose.

Not foolish to him. We probably all risk our lives a little bit on the roads everyday-but judge the risk acceptable. That's what he's doing. I wonder if he thinks he's brave

Tis a beautiful thing to behold. I couldn't do it with a rope, or a winch for that matter. Hope he doesn't die doing it someday.

there must have been an overwhelming temptation for the cameraman to scream at him whilst he was climbing the wall

Not sure if I really agree with Bob. We don't really have to consciously assess risk. Our subconscious does it through the amygdyla. This is why we sense fear in the face of danger rather than a calculated cold concluded 'I better not do that'. Some people with damaged amygdylae don't fear, and can be found in this kind of pursuit
