Young girl investigates religionYoung girl investigates religion

A young atheist rips into the Old Testament after questioning what she was learning at Bible studies. Saz, smart girl, she should go far. But it seems her parents have silenced her, concerned she would jeopardise her future by trying to educate people.

@Glortman - Clearly is her own.. I guess she is smarter than you at that age? :)

@MrFlame (sigh, the name says it all, no?). She might be smarter than I was at that age, heck, she might even be smarter than I am now. The posting on YouTube is by atheistatom.com, a subsidiary of the Secular Student Alliance. Her costume changes, edits and remarkable biblical knowledge *might* be the product of a single 12 year-old mind. On the other hand, the most parsimonious answer is that she has had at least a little help. On the biblical knowledge part, I am going to go a little further, since it is unlikely one would "happen to notice" all of those passages in such diverse sections of the bible, unless you had read through it. Even at ten minutes a day, the Old Testament takes a little longer than a half year to read, which of course I will grant she may have done... I just don't think it is likely. Your post, Mr. Flame, is simply a matter of faith.

... and any anti-Islam Christians remember this when you mention how violent the Koran is... they're both as bad as each other!

. . . really, then go read any daily newspaper and learn what's going on in countries dominated by Islam. They have no peace and live with endless violence and advocate suicide bombers. No one takes the carnage in the OT seriously but violence and Jihad are at the core of the Koran.

I'd look to science for medical help as it's all we've really got. Glad you love science!

Latest comment: Hey she is talking about the old Testament, Christianity, Judaism, Islam have all the same old testament and the same God.

That is the problem for believers..The more science educates and opens up freedom of the mind in the young the less relevent religion becomes. Therefore the less the leaders of religion can control and profit from their 'flock' The muslim religion which is 200 years behind the christian religions will eventually go the same way.It is technology which will free us.

I love seeing youngsters excited about science.

Science is a fact gathering paradigm designed to discover natural laws. You might say rather, I love seeing youngsters excited about biblical hermenutics.

She should run around in the sun playing something and not concerning herself with useless stuff. If you dont like creationists, then move to europe, even the catholics here accept evolution as gods way of creating the world

Guest:  (720 days ago)
Talk about ignorance. The Catholic Church has never denied or denounced evolution, never, anywhere. Individual bishops have, but the church neither endorsed nor proscribed evolution until 1950 when it endorsed it. The Catholic Church has also never regarded the Bible to be literally true. That's one of the reasons the Church tried to prevent it being published in the vernacular, they knew ignorant people would get all crazy about it.

Ha ha ha. Google "Spanish Inquisition" if you want a laugh about the Catholic Church. Try telling a court of the Spanish Inquisition that you "don't regard the Bible as literally true". You'd be put on the BBQ before you could say "Monty Python". They didn't want ordinary folks to read the Bible, because then they would realise what a load of drivel it was like this smart young lady. And when you've got a minute, pop over to Africa and watch hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of African dying from AIDS because the Pope (that guy in drag) has told them they can't use condoms.

Well according to Wikipedia the Spanish inquisition at it's height executed about 40 people a year, not very impressive by modern standards, mostly for the political purposes of the Spanish Monarchy. They wouldn't have cared if you said the Bible wasn't literally true generally, though they'd have been very upset if you denied specific parts of the New Testament. It's relatively modern Protestant sects who regard the whole Bible as literally true, probably because it's their only source of authority. The Catholic Church is apostolic, it doesn't derive it's authority from scripture (they are the ones who compiled the scripture) but from the apostolic succession, the authority Jesus invested in his apostles. As to Aids in Africa, I thought it might have something to do with multiple sex partners as well. And in any case 5/6 of African aren't Catholic. Do try and get some little grasp of what you are talking about.

According to the Bible, "without faith, it is impossible to please God." You're unclear on the concept if your goal is to "prove" the Bible.

You really should make sure you know what you're talking about before you post ignorance. First off, if they are Catholic and listen to the pope (if they aren't they have no reason to listen to the church and therefore can use condoms) they won't be having sex before they are married, which negates the need for the use of condoms. However, Pope Benedict XVI has allowed for the use of condoms to protect against HIV. In response to the girls video, the stories from the bible are in line with the customs of the time they were written (PS a lot of stories in the OT originated in other literature). But the point of the bible is the messages from the stories, as many stories are allegories. The girl in the video still has a lot of learning to do before she can (and probably will) be able to make valid points against the bible. I have been studying the bible for a little over a year now, and the bottom line is everything comes down to faith. Either you have it or you don't. If you do, follow religion. If you don't, don't follow it. There is no testable proof anywhere in the bible.

I don't disagree with her critique, however, I am quite certain she didn't come up with this stuff on her own. She might be smart, she might be right, but she is likely not the author of her diatribe.

To the commenters, don't change the subject and start to bash Islam, only makes you look stupid. Word.

Guest: Allah (638 days ago)
Nonsense, Islam is a line of hogwash that some are afraid to criticize due to reprisal. You'd be stupid not to include it in something outdated which needs to die.

The old testament is no longer valid, as the new testament replaces it

Go girl go, wish I had been that aware at your age, I was a bit but got into terrible trouble, usually in R.I. kat

Why is it that religious people are always trying to shoehorn rationality into their religion, rather than just accepting the obvious - man made up god, so the ****** doesn't actually exist!

Guest:  (492 days ago)
The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. 1 Corinthians 2:14

Atheists and Bible/Koran/Torah believers should all go on LSD trips to find out just how silly each of them is. There IS a God, but he is US.
