From listening to and reading statements from atheists i feel very comforted. Because according to them when religion is gone there will be no more war (as all wars are started because of religion) there will be no more child molesting or rape (as all this is done by priests) and now according to this fool there will be no more ignorance of the world.

Latest comment: I understand you don't have the intellectual tools to comprehend what Richard is saying... it's okay; this is a common pattern among religious people.

Is this guy simple-minded? His first statement is idiotic. Just because several different people have the same experience and recall/construct it in different ways does not mean nothing happened, far from it. Different manifestations of the experience of God is only to be expected, it would be strange if they were all the same, no other external experience is. Mathematics is the same for everybody but it is a product of the mind, a landscape is not the same to everyone who looks at it. No two paintings of it will be the same, only the broad outline. This is not evidence there IS a God but the lack of consistency across religions is not indictment against God either. Ö Of course there is no scientific evidence for God, science is based on the premise everything has a material explanation. Asking for scientific evidence for God is like expecting to see something green while wearing red-tinted glasses. Ö What constitutes evidence depends on the premises you assume, to do science you must assume materialist axioms and thatís fine, the problem is when in the name of so-called 'science', you deny the legitimacy of any other axioms. That is faith, not distinguishable from religious faith, indeed itís not distinguishable from religious bigotry. True science decides between testable propositions and axioms are, by definition, not testable.

So if a lot of different people have different ideas about religion, that proves that religion as a whole is correct? What would it take to demonstrate the opposite? Everyone agreeing? Well, I guess that means that most of science is wrong.

The existance of multiple religions is not an argument against the possibility of there being some immaterial supernatural 'whatever' and I don't think that is the point he is making there. It is an argument against the specific theologies themselves and their fairytales, which do themselves claim to be singular truths therefore all contradicting each other. The different religious tales can't all be true so you can't tell which, if any, are 'true'. The point is that people may indeed have religious experiences or as is more likely have a 'feeling' there's something more to this all, and it may even be 'real' but subject to huge interpretation, as you say. It is quite a jump to go from a subjective religious experience to books full of stories and rules. The religions are defined by their texts/rules/edicts, but they are merely man made things, not to be trusted. Personally I think buddha may have been on to something but who knows.

But, and correct me if I'm wrong, Dawkins is not a Deist or an Agnostic, he's an Atheist and his arguments are directed to that position.

God isn't dead, he's just moved to a new address... Many people have decided to stop worshiping God and to worship themselves instead, in the overwhelming majority of cases this is clearly not an improvement.
