Anonymous: Operation Facebook, Nov 5 2011Anonymous: Operation Facebook, Nov 5 2011

Attention citizens of the world. Message from hacking group Anonymous that Facebook will be destroyed, and the historic day will be November 5th, 2011. They accuse Facebook of selling your private information to government agencies and giving clandestine access to information security firms so that they can spy on people from all around the world. The world post Nov 5th will be interesting if they succeed in their threat.

We knew this from day one... I only post information on Facebook which I don't mind the world knowing... privacy or not, who really cares about my information?... Why is privacy such a concern, you tell Facebook what you want to tell it... if suddenly all my online information were completely public where EVERYONE could access it... so what... ooh they know where I live!... so?...

Fair enough, but it's the information that they collect that you don't "post" that is annoying. Like that flippant instant message you sent 4 years ago, when you logged in, whose profile you have visited and how often, which photos you've been looking at and so on.

Easy to be flippant if you've never been stalked or targeted by a hostile state.

If my address was available online a team of crack ninja assassins wearing Chuck Norris masks would be abseiling through my windows within minutes. And I would despatch them all.

Unless you're a political activist trying to bring about revolutionary change, why would the government give two shits who you are and what you're thinking every 2 minutes? NONE OF YOUR FRIENDS GIVE A SHIT ABOUT YOUR STATUS! Let alone any nonsensical anti-authoritarian horseshit. Facebook does seem to contribute to all things wrong with society at the moment, so I will not be using or indeed missing it if these people do succeed in their aim.

Nobody is interested in your single statuses. What they want is global analysis. Every user is profiled and accounted in statistics.

Yes, you're absolutely right, WHY would the gov't want to know all the details of your life so they can better manipulate you and your interests. WHY would they want to know what you want to vote for. WHY would they want to know what influence you have on others. WHY would they want to know what products you'll spend your time and money on so they can collect it from corporations...

Idiots, they want to protect freedom of info by removing one of the mostly widely used sharing platforms there is. There is little they could do which would hinder the flow of information and interaction more. Self-righteous, self-absorbed pricks to the last I expect.

I agree with slicsps, to a point. They shoukd not sell info to sh**y govs. Also agree with pete. but I would like to see them do it for the laugh. The net cannot be controlled.

Couldn't care less (no Facebook account) but a number of women in my family will be furious if this happens. Roll on, 5th November - this is going to be interesting.
