I'm just glad Merrion isn't alive to see this.

Pity Enoch Powell isn't. He could have the biggest 'I told you so' in history.

I feel nothing but contempt for these morons. Where are their parents? I really believe parents of these numb skulls should share some of the blame for these senseless and mindless riots/looting. It's obvious the uneducated have instigated this. They're jealous of 'rich people' but can't get off their backsides to earn the money. This country is going to the dogs and I really don't know what to do about it! Grrrrrrr, I'm so angry I could just spit!

Guest: greenman (647 days ago)
england, actually the world is fkd if these are the future. Nice to see though that some right minded people in the communities are now standing up to these scum.

Guest: Harold (648 days ago)
seriously? what a bunch of morons

Guest:  (648 days ago)
Stupid Americ....er, never mind.

Conservatives... Whatever... God forbid! They are oxygen thieves

Guest: god is dead (647 days ago)
Idiots.

Filmaddict Filmaddict (647 days ago)
If 'a riot is the language of the unheard' Martin Luther King Jr., then I suggest 'they' learn how to seriously debate issues, instead of spouting such complete rubbish, to justify their actions.

Guest:  (647 days ago)
Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose, I believe Ivar the boneless once evinced a similar sentiment to these young ladies, "When the Saxon speaks of lessening the danegeld or dares strike back at us, is time to show them we can do as we please with them." So pay up or grow some, peasants!

Guest: Argle (646 days ago)
"Show the police we can do what we want"....??? I'd love to ask them, "so, some other blokes who want to show the police they can do what they want, decide that what they want to do during the riots is drag you into a back alley and rape you. That's all ok, because it's all just 'good fun.'" And it's the conservative's fault. Right. They are morons.

Guest: Spursman12 (647 days ago)
Such ******* morons! they dont even know why the riots started..just sheep following the angry mob.

Guest: greenman (647 days ago)
I dont think there is an angry mob. Just opportunistic scum that got a chance to go thieving. And then the sheep joined in

Guest:  (647 days ago)
As in hardcore drugs and hope that they overdose?

Guest:  (647 days ago)
No, no, that would be inhumane and go against the principles rational, secular societies hold dear. Give them something to diminish their aggression and maybe something to make them feel happy, throw in some contraceptive while you're at it, problem solved, scientifically!

Guest:  (647 days ago)
Brain dead bitches ...........half a brain they would be dangerous.............obv iously they were on a day off when God gave brains out !!!

If by some freak of luck the two girls in this sound bite (can) read this, i hope you and you loved ones die of cancer. It's a slow death but this would be to good for you. Those "rich" people pay their taxes which keep you in benefits and would also give the medicine to treat you cancer. Thus prolonging your death. Thank God for Taxes.

Guest:  (647 days ago)
Also having your own business doesn't mean you are rich either. You can own a business and work all hours and still end up worse off than people who get various benefits. Just saying.

Guest: Sigg3.net (646 days ago)
It still doesn't solve the problem of a clear divide between "the rich" and "the poor". Classic London.

Guest:  (646 days ago)
You might, you just might want to consider for a moment, the possibility, the teeniest possibility, that not all problems can be solved without making an even bigger problem...I know it's a shock and you may need some time before we talk about Father Christmas and the tooth fairy so we'll leave that for now.

Guest: Social Justice Rules (646 days ago)
The illiterati speak, products of a morally bankrupt society that favours consumerism over social cohesion? Even so lets fly them all to Iraq and see if they fancy trying a little bit of looting in downtown Baghdad. Morons who do not take the opportunities provided such as a good education deserve no less.

Guest: Dieven (647 days ago)
how about getting a job and joining in with society. Benefit scroungers both of you. Was it fun to burn down 26 peoples homes? to burn 750 people out of a job? Why because you cant be arsed to get your own job you think you have to take from others.

MissAlanius MissAlanius (647 days ago)
The biggest problem is that these girls will be parents, if not already

Morons.....Not a Friking clue!

Samsgimp Samsgimp (647 days ago)
I find it deeply ironic that gang bangers are shooting, stabbing and beating each other to death in the hundreds every year and yet when a police officer shoots just one of them in legitimate circumstances - everyone goes f*****g mental and we all pay the price - WTF!!

Filmaddict Filmaddict (647 days ago)
I would not have put it the way you have, but I totally agree Samsgimp.

Guest:  (647 days ago)
I know it doesn't look good that a police officer shot a young man BUT until the investigation has been carried out, we don't know exactly why and, before anyone shouts about corrupt police, police state, crooked investigations etc. just think......who is there to replace the police? The vast majority of coppers in this country are good people doing a crappy job in the glare of the public eye when anything goes a bit wrong. They are damned if they do too little because the public will scream about them being heavy handed and they are damned if they too much with accusations of bullying and thuggery. I served a spell as a copper so here's an informed point of view. 1. If you're not prepared to wear the uniform and try doing the job yourself, don't shout at the people who stand between you and the sort of stupidity we've seen recently. 2. As a copper, you are expected to be all things to all people - marriage counsellor, guide book, peace keeper, first aider, arbitrator and much more. 3. When you go to work, do other people call you unpleasant names when you have done nothing? - it happens to coppers more than you think. 4. Do you have the guts to do a job where it's necessary to wear a stab-proof vest to work? 5. In many areas, you are a hated figure until the time the public need you to sort out their problems for them.

Filmaddict Filmaddict (647 days ago)
I have never and will never hate a public servant. Anyone with half a brain knows how hard a job it is, and I'm certainly not judging the police for shooting that man, let’s hear what happened first and then perhaps we can argue the point, if necessary. From my point of view, I like seeing police men and women AND the community police on the street and I've said that many a time to their face. It just gives me a warm feeling, seeing them patrolling our streets. They're a vital resource that must not be underestimated.

Guest: god is dead (647 days ago)
people in poverty in England, get a grip. People on the streets who have nothing that is poverty. People who have no food are in poverty. Most of the people in the riots have or live in a house and have food maybe even given to them by the government. They have access to education, money and health from the government. U could live a decent, honourable life in the welfare state. Most of the people I see in the riots have nice clothes, look like they have eaten well, have mobile phones etc. This is about uneducated criminals and scum taking advantage of an opportunity. And if they hurt in the riot, I guess they will just go the hospital.

Guest:  (647 days ago)
But that is just it, the welfare state has given them bread and circuses, it didn't stop rioting in ancient Rome and it won't stop it now. If people were machines you could oil them and repair them, make sure they had plenty of fuel and then expect them to merrily do whatever they were designed to do. That is the materialist view of people, meat machines, it's scientific, it's rational, problem is, people aren't. Give them bread and they don't knuckle their forehead and mumble 'bless you guv' they kick you in the shin and steal your purse because you make them feel bad.

What a BUNCH OF ASSHOLES!

Filmaddict Filmaddict (646 days ago)
'We'll stay open, if they steal books, they might learn something', Waterstones employee during London riots 2011. I doubt if they know what a book store is, let alone be able to find one; and if they did they certainly wouldn't loot it. That's probably why they're rioters in the first place; they couldn't have done very well in school, as is proven by these two imbeciles.

There will be plenty of double time floating about for any copper who wants to put himself in the firing line. Only 20 weeks until Christmas so the little extra will be a big help providing there is stuff left in the shops to buy.

School holidays should be shorter.

It may be trite, but I think it is important to remember that WE are society. Change begins with each of us: with how we teach our children, how we treat others, and what we consider acceptable and entertaining. This behaviour represents the bottom end of a spectrum, and the best way to fight it, is to improve the entire spectrum.

Britain. Defined.

Guest:  (643 days ago)
wow, someone's clearly never left their hometown

Guest: Skinny American (646 days ago)
WTF. Humans can be morons regardless of nationality...we haven't had riots? Mobs bring out the worst in society. It's kind of like the worst comes out of some people when they can be rude, anonymously.

American defined by imbecilic statement.

Not so much trite as confusing. How will responsible people becoming even more responsible help? If you have a teenager who is a slob and you are always having to clean up after him do you think being even tidier yourself will help somehow? This behavior is the logical outcome of a hedonistic, materialist world-view and a market economy. You can only fight it by adopting a command economy and making everyone so poor there is nothing to steal or promoting, non-materialist, even (gasp!), spiritual values.

Guest:  (647 days ago)
Many here seem to think this is an anomaly. There are millions upon millions who think just like this, all that restrains them is fear of consequences. Whenever you 'solve' a social problem you must be very careful your solution doesn’t create a new one. These are the children of the welfare state, the same people who rioted in the streets of ancient Rome. Life isn’t about just having a roof over your head and enough to eat, people need more. In a society which values nothing but the material, which holds pleasure as the highest good, those who have the minimum of those things are apt to turn savage. There aren’t enough wide screen TV’s to fill the void in the human soul. Try giving them drugs maybe, that would be the scientific solution.

Guest: FFS (647 days ago)
Riiiiight, cos obviously 'rich people' includes those who have had small shops (newsagents, furniture shops, florists) burnt down, and those inside any house that has been burnt (whether bought, rented, or through social housing). They all just make/have money and were given these homes/businesses, and aren't up to their eyes in mortgages/ground rent etc.
