The Berglas Effect

The Berglas Effect

(5:09) ACAAN (Any Card At Any Number) is a card trick of which there are many variations. However, magician David Berglas (b. 1926) performed a version which seemed so impossible as to be a miracle. It has become known as the Berglas Effect and is considered the holy grail of magic. In this video, award-winning magician Marc Paul performs the effect in two very different environments. No stooges, no adjusting, no kidding... just the impossible made real.

I know it's a trick, but I haven't the slightest idea of how it's done, therefore it's amazing.

Hey-smartie pants, not only did he explain it at the 2 minute mark, this trick and others like it have been explained, duplicated, and mastered by many. See David Korem's investigative reports on this trick. Then replay the vid but close your eyes. : )

Stooges are a possibility, even if they are denied. I notice Berglas gets the card name before he gets its position. And the deck is not shuffled. So if the person saying the number either knows the order, or if Berglas somehow signals the number to them, the trick could be done. Or using time travel.

I suppose the atheist sort of response would be to say that I know that such things can't happen, even as trickery, so it didn't. There y'go. Problem solved.

No! The atheist response would be to say "this is amazing, and I don't understand it, but that doesn't mean there isn't a rational explanation"
