Derren Brown - Intelligent design?Derren Brown - Intelligent design?

(5:01) British illusionist, magician and sceptic Derren Brown talks about the illusion of design in nature. It's interesting how many magicians are atheists. Is it because they know how easy it is for people to be duped?

What about Nostradomas. He wrote for posterety, having to hide his meaning in quatrains. I believe that he believed it was devine guidance. I also believe he was deluded. You can read anything into these texts, biblical or other.

It is simple to prove that God exists. Read the prophecies of the Bible and compare them with history to see whether they came true or not. eg In Daniel chapter 2 is a prophecy which covers over 2600 years - from his day until ours - the interpretation is also given; so there can be no chance of misunderstanding Daniel's words. Dan says the prophecy was given to him by God! Good enough proof for me that God exists. And there dozens of prophecies concerning the Jews and they have all turned to be true, many of them fulfilled 100's or even 1000's of years after they were given. Incidentally, there are no prophecies in the Koran! I wonder why?

Sheesh. Why do YOU have to behave like Nebuchadnezzar then ? Presumably literally if you could.

So what is your interpretation of Nebuchadnezzar's dream in Daniel 2? Wikipedia lists 5 different interpretations. These prophecies are bullshit.

It will never be possible to prove that God exists. e.g. I am standing on a cloud in front of a white bearded all powerful man who's glowing magnificence is stopping the horrific, fatal car crash damage from continuing to hurt me. He tells me I can believe in him or go below to burn in hell. The only thing that I can possibly know at this point is: I think therefore I am. This will always be the case.

No. The fatal car crash has stopped hurting you. Now he's just smelling your breath...

Latest comment: The bible was written by mere men who had the gall and egos to think that god was talking to them How ridiculous. Look at this site and "god is evil". It clearly explains and is obvious that the bible was written by the victors of the day. The bible and therefore obviously god (if you believe in the bible, which I don't) condones rape and slavery at the very least. In Jesus's tiime there were many people who could heal, levitate and all sorts. We have lost that power as we have become too distance from our roots and instincts. kat

I disagree with one thing these two said: that it can't be proved that God does not expist. Well, it can. What loving, benevolent, caring, omnipotent God would let children die within seconds of being born, yet allow Pol Pot. Hitler and Stalin to walk the earth to a healthy old age? Simple answer; a non-existent one!

Guest:  (608 days ago)
It's simpler than that. It's blatantly obvious that nothing like god exists in this space-time continuum, in the ordinary sense of the word "exist." Believers get round this by saying that god is "spiritual" or exists "outside of space and time." But these words don't mean anything - they are non-sense. Believers get around this by saying that mere words cannot capture the essence of their god. I'm willing to believe that! But if their god is so utterly mysterious and ineffable, it is impossible to say anything at all meaningful about it. All the mountains of theology and religion are just plain old bullshit.
