He has some button he presses that operates some device in that hat which changes the mask. He brings his arm up to his face to make us believe he's doing it manually.

He has cords up both sleeves that run into the back of the hat. One on each side to go up or down one mask and another on each side to go to the beginning or no masks at all.

When you say planet, do you mean like a gas giant like Jupiter?

I see what you did there, but no, more like one of the giant planets in the Goldilocks zone around Antares.

Latest comment: I saw this ten days ago in Shenzhen, and no, he has no wires, no button. I saw a different artist who did this trick with a large puppet apparatus that went well over his head, and stood over on the side, where I saw everything he did, while others in my group were in front. He operated two sticks that went up to the puppet's hands. It was amazing, and you can guess all you want, but the button bs the string bs, is just a guess, and that's the point. Of COURSE it's no supernatural, of COURSE it's not against the law of physics. But I wouldnt spot any such device and I was on the side the whole time, nor could anyone in front determine. Furthermore, the act I saw including a very short, perhaps a dwarf or child, assistant, and she also changed faces several times. Its a very short show, maybe five minutes, and they are gone. If Penn and Teller cant figure it out, you folks that didnt see it in person can't either. Besides being a world class illusion, the music and atmosphere surrounding the act is intoxicating
