Latest comment: That's what I thought. The antelope could easily have avoided the rider especially as the rider spotted him and slowed down. I reckon it was an old vendetta. Bad blood between them.....

Glortman, have a look at this - LINK There are always two sides to every story. Your link is relating to a motorcyclist so not really relevant to this story or have you had a brain injury.

Try this: Squat down on the road and clasp your hands behind your back with your chin tucked. Now topple forward onto your head. Do it both with, and without a helmet. Let me know which one hurt more. I assure you, normal bicycle speeds and height result in considerably more force. Also, please sign your organ donor card so that after your trip to Tesco, then the morgue, another person can have a crack at your kidneys.

Oh, and my link? It is ironic. Anti-helmet protester dies from head injuries in anti-helmet protest. Amazing. Finally, your site, while better than most that take a stab a scientific research, in many cases seems to confuse correlation with causality. I agree the issue is complex, and many critiques of the literature are quite valid, but NONE of the critiques suggest NOT wearing a helmet as a better alternative.

Helmets can cause more problems than they solve. Perhaps all pedestrians should wear them too? Just in case.

Searchguru, as someone who otherwise appears informed and intelligent, this comment casts doubt on your wisdom. I think you would be hard pressed to find a brain surgeon, neurologist or neuroscientist on the planet who would agree with you.
