The amount of battery power needed for long periods would render it useless. Batteries are heavy!

True to some extent. With LiPo batteries though pure "hover" flight times of 10 minutes are easy for many quadrocopters, and with it "flying" instead of "hovering" it'll use considerably less power. I'd imagine that - at that price - they're not even bothering to calculate for return flights... 10 minute mission time? .. should be enough to deliver some nastiness :o/
