Police pepper spray peaceful UC Davis students

(8:34) Blatant police brutality at University of California, Davis, aka UC Davis. Police force was authorised by UC Davis chancellor Linda Katehi who said campus police officers defied her orders when they used pepper spray. "We told the police to remove the tents or the equipment. We told them very specifically to do it peacefully, and if there were too many of them, not to do it. If the students were aggressive, not to do it. And then we told them we also do not want to have another Berkeley."

Shame on the police. This is brutality, pure and simple. If the police alienate themselves from the middle classes by brutalising their children and pointing weapons at unarmed peaceful protesters, what hope have they got for keeping law and order across the nation?

Latest comment: Tell me, Sue. How should the police enforce the law against people who will not obey it? Or should it not apply to the middle-classes if you happen to agree with their opinions? At what point should they give up? When someone breaks the law? When someone refuses to stop breaking the law? When someone grabs your purse and refuses to give it back? Would it be brutality then to apprehend the thief?

Typical self-pitying, wannabe victims desperate to play the "oh, look at me, I'm being persecuted" card. You break the law, you get arrested. No-one ever has a problem when it happens to poor people, but when it happens to middle-class students, Boreme expects my heart to bleed, as if the law doesn't apply to them. You are not the 99%.

Only they are NOT breaking the law. The right to peaceful demonstration is something that separates democracy from dictatorships etc. Nobody is expecting your heart to bleed, but to respect all of our rights. This concerns everyone, rich, poor.

Yes they were - 10 were charged. The right to peaceful demonstration does not include the right to blockade, and prevent innocent people who do not share their views from getting on with their lives. In order to enforce the law, the police had to eventually get physical - that does not make a country a dictatorship.

I'm just getting tired of BoreMe's agenda here. Half the posts these days are pro-OWS and pro-atheism propaganda, with a little opinion piece as a caption, as if we aren't able make up our own minds. This website used to be fun, but now it feels like the opinion blog of a student, where everyone has to agree with the consensus. And I say this as a devout atheist.
