What is the Higgs Boson?

(12:45) Recent results from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) show tantalising hints that the Higgs Boson does indeed exist. Until that is confirmed, physicists are not absolutely sure their best understanding of the basic building blocks of everything, as described by a theory called "The Standard Model", is correct. The Higgs Boson was predicted to exist in 1964 and is what gives stuff mass. One of the main purposes of the LHC at CERN is to detect it. Sixty Symbols explains more about the Higgs Boson, the particle within the mysterious Higgs Field.
